Must be 18 years of age or older, physically fit, non-smoker, wiling to work hard, learn the skills necessary to become a firefighter and be on call 24/7. The Williamstown Fire District trains weekly every Monday night. A firefighter's duty is to save lives, protect property and protect the environment. Williamstown hosted a mutual aid tanker drill Monday night. We had a great turn out of firefighters and trucks from Pownal, New Ashford Hancock and Lanesboro. Forestry Brush 1 helped out with traffic. I think we all got something out of the drill. Thanks to all departments for participating. ￼
The Williamstown Fire District joined by the Williamstown Forest Warden‘s Department held its annual open house today. We had a couple of visitors who came to greet everyone. Sparky the Fire Dog and Smokey the Bear pose with the Williamstown Fire Chief and Williamstown Forest Warden.
The Williamstown Forest Wardens and the Williamstown Fire Dept. was dispatched at around 1500 hours Sunday for a hiker on the MT Prospect trail on MT Greylock with a broken ankle. We called out mutual aid to assist in carrying 1 one person out of a group of 3. North Adams Fire, Clarksburg Fire, Pownal Fire, NBAS and DCR and Scott Lewis. We sent first team in to meet up with DCR who was on trails near by. As we gained rescuers two more teams were sent in to assist team one as it was getting dark at this point. All out of woods by 22:00 hours.
I would like to thank all personal for the hard work they performed in the dark and with no injuries. Hiker was transported to BMC.
Ladders are one of our important tool for Firefighters and as cold weather approaches we brush up on ground ladders, so here are some pics from Monday night.
The Fire Dept and the Forest Wardens were called out today to rescue a man who was parasailing up on Taconic Trail and crashed onto a tree some 40’ up. We called the NBAS and the Western MA Technical Rescue Team to assist. No injuries and call went well. Thanks to the agencies for their assistance.

Congratulations to Greg King, Matt Wilson, and Ben Maron who completed the Cystic Fibrosis Stair Climb fundraiser in Albany. The participants climbed 42 floors (809 steps) of the Corning Tower. Ben took second place with a time of 10 minutes 23 seconds! 🏅 Great job and great cause!
Thanks to AJ of Emergency Response Consulting for the, Stop the Bleed training this week. The multi-agency training prepares us to respond to a mass-casualty and active shooter incident. Tragically, this training is all to real in light of the Kentucky school shooting yesterday. Our hearts go out to those families, their community, and responders.
