Today, we pause to remember two Western New York law enforcement heroes whose watches ended on the same date, twelve years apart.

We honor Patrol Officer David J. Tolsma of the Cheektowaga Police Department, who was killed in the line of duty on October 20, 1977, and Deputy William M. Dillemuth of the Erie County Sheriff's Office, who made the ultimate sacrifice on October 20, 1989.

Though separated by twelve years, both men shared the same commitment to service, courage, and protecting others. Their sacrifices remind us of the risks law enforcement officers face every day and the profound impact they leave on their families, fellow officers, and the communities they swore to serve.

Today, we honor their memories, reflect on their service, and ensure their legacies are never forgotten.

Today, we remember Buffalo Police Lt. Craig Lehner, who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty on October 13, 2017, during a training exercise on the Niagara River.

Lt. Lehner's dedication, courage, and commitment to serving the City of Buffalo continue to inspire those who wear the badge and the community he proudly protected. Though years have passed, his legacy lives on through the lives he touched, the officers he served beside, and the family and friends who carry his memory forward.

On this anniversary, we honor his sacrifice and remember that his watch ended far too soon, but he will never be forgotten. Lt. Lehner was a graduate of our 111th Basic Course for Police Officers.

🔥 FEEL THE BURN! 🔥
The recruits of Bravo Platoon (149th Basic Class) faced one of the toughest rites of passage in law enforcement training this week: OC (Oleoresin Capsicum) Spray Qualification!
After being sprayed, recruits had to fight through the intense heat, stay focused, push past physical discomfort, and successfully navigate defensive tactics scenarios to complete the course.
This training ensures our future officers learn perseverance under pressure and know firsthand the effects of the tools on their duty belts.
Join us in congratulating Bravo Platoon on pushing through the burn, staying tough, and taking another major step toward graduation! 💪 🛡️

NEVER FORGET September 11, 2001

Twenty-five years later, we remember the victims, honor the heroes, and reflect on the selfless courage demonstrated by first responders who ran toward danger when others were seeking safety.
Their example remains a guiding principle for every recruit preparing to serve their community.

We are thrilled to announce that 21 officers, from 12 different departments have successfully completed the Instructor Development Course on Friday and are now certified General Topics instructors.

After two weeks of hard work and dedication, they have successfully completed their training and are ready to start providing instruction to their respective departments. We are immensely proud of their accomplishments and the bright future that lies ahead for them.

The department’s that were represented are: the city of Buffalo Police Department, Erie County Sheriff’s Office, the towns of Amherst, Cheektowaga, Hamburg, and Orchard Park police departments, the village of Depew police department, SUNY Upstate University police department, Roswell Park Public Safety Department, Erie County Probation Department, New York State Attorney General’s Office, and the Wheatfield Constables.
