afternoon.
* WHERE...Portions of central, east central, southeast and west
central Illinois.
* WHEN...From noon to 7 PM CDT Wednesday.

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out
of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young
children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles
under any circumstances. Take extra precautions if you work or
spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities
to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat
exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting
clothing when possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the
Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends
scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned
environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1.
⚠️ Severe Thunderstorm Warning ⚠️
In effect until 3:15 am
WFPD will be hosting our annual Water Ball Tournament at Williamsvilles Autumn on the Boulevard Sept 10 at 9 am. Come out and watch as your local firefighters take on some near by departments. If you are a department and would like to participate please email [email protected] by September 3rd!
A flood watch will remain in effect through Tuesday morning.
🥵 Heat advisory in effect from noon to 8pm tomorrow.
Heat index values over 105 degrees are likely on Saturday over much of central and southeast Illinois, so a Heat Advisory has been issued from Galesburg to Springfield to Lawrenceville westward. There is some uncertainty east of there due to morning clouds and rain, which could keep temperatures down for a time. While the advisory is in effect from noon to 8 pm Saturday, there is some potential it may need to be extended into Sunday, especially south of I-72.
August 6th from 9am to 3pm at the firehouse!

Sever Thunderstorm Watch until midnight
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued until midnight for portions of central Illinois, including Peoria, Springfield, and Bloomington. Storms are expected to develop in west-central and northwestern Illinois and move southeastward. Damaging winds are the primary concern, although isolated large hail is also possible. If you have to be outside, be sure to take frequent breaks in an air conditioned environment, avoid strenuous activity, and drink plenty of water.
One of our own participated today! Way to go Firefighter/Officer Mayes!
Just be mindful of the weather tonight. Will update as they come in
Storms are expected to redevelop this evening and move across portions of central Illinois late this evening and overnight. Some of these storms could be severe with large hail and damaging winds. An isolated tornado cannot be ruled out.
⚠️Excessive heat warning ⚠️
Please remember to keep cool, stay hydrated, make sure outside animals have proper shade and fresh water if you are unable to bring them inside, limit time outside for children and keep them cool and hydrated. It's going to be a very hot and humid next few days. Stay safe
Oppressively hot and humid conditions will dominate the area today through Wednesday. Expect daily highs in the mid to upper 90s and lows in the upper 70s. With the high humidity, afternoon heat indices will peak at 105-110 degrees each day. Heat is the top weather related cause of death, so take precautions during this dangerous heat wave!
