We urge everyone to change the replaceable batteries in your smoke alarms every 6 months. A reliable smoke alarm is important for early notification of a fire and gives you and your family and/or tenants time to get out of the building safely.

Just to give everyone the heads up for tomorrow. This demolition and blasting happens every 5 or so years behind Builders Concrete to break up the old cement pile in the fields behind their main building, to allow the excavators to take the smaller pieces of cement away more easily for recycling. The demolition company is licensed, insured and very experienced in this type of work. They have done this work for Builders Concrete several times over the years.

This is why The Windham Fire Marshal Office is committed to proactive inspections of multi-family apartment buildings to ensure all occupants can quickly and safely exit the building if a fire does occur. And to ensure all risk factors that can contribute to the start of a fire are mitigated ( don’t use extension cords, don’t smoke in bed, don’t leave food unattended on the stove, discard cigarette butts appropriately just to name a few)
