Talking about homelessness and the hardships some people face can feel difficult, especially with kids. But these are important conversations as we raise the next generation of empathetic humans. ❤️

Books can be a gentle, meaningful way to start those discussions. One example is A Place for Us by James E. Ransome. Told entirely through watercolor illustrations, the story follows a mother and son through an ordinary day: school, a trip to the library, everyday moments — before revealing the uncertainty they face each night as they search for a safe place to sleep.

Stories like this can help children build compassion, understanding, and awareness for all ages. Borrow it from your local library today: (shout out to two great ones, Willimantic Public Library and Mansfield Public Library.)

A heartfelt THANK YOU to our friend Steve Lane of Mansfield for designing and building beautiful new shelving for our storage room at 433 Valley Street!

Now retired after more than 35 years as a self-employed general contractor specializing in residential remodeling, Steve generously shared his time and talent to support our work. Because of him, our guests and staff now have a well-organized, functional space for shelter supplies and personal belongings.

Supporters like Steve truly make all the difference—we are so grateful!

A heartfelt thank you to Silk City Coffee for your generosity this winter ☕️

Because of you—and your customers—our shelter guests were able to enjoy truly great coffee during the colder months. Each month, you donated a 5 lb. bag of freshly ground coffee, made possible by purchases of select baked goods in your shop. That small act made a big difference.

It means so much to be able to offer something special, beyond the basic comforts we typically have. Gestures like yours bring comfort, dignity, and a sense of belonging to the people we serve.

We’re so grateful for your partnership and community spirit.❤️
