We extended our heartfelt prayers to Captain Jesus “Jesse” Castillo’s family and friends. Many of our members have had the honor of working with Captain Castillo over the years during mutual aid incidents and as members of other fire departments. Captain Castillo was an amazing public servant, loving husband, and committed father.

His loss is felt throughout Montgomery County, and his legacy will never be forgotten.

Rest easy, Captain Castillo.

Summer Fire Season is Underway Across Much of Texas

Montgomery County Firefighters are on the fire lines across the State. Here in Montgomery County, the number of wildfires has remained relatively low, with the few that have broken out being quickly extinguished by a combined effort between local Firefighters and the Texas A&M Forest Service.

Residents are reminded that outdoor burning in Texas is generally illegal under Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) rules unless it meets specific state exceptions.

In Montgomery County, the burning of household trash in or around subdivisions and on less than 5 acres of land is always prohibited. This year-round restriction eliminates one of the most common wildfire causes. At this time, the only legal burning allowed is the burning of limbs and leaves gathered by a resident on their own property. While this type of burning is currently legal in unincorporated areas, residents are asked to refrain from burning until conditions improve. Residents in Municipal areas and The Woodlands Township are bound by local regulations that are often more restrictive than those for other unincorporated areas of the County.

The following is a summary of burning prohibitions in effect at all times in Montgomery County;

• Residential Trash Burning – Class C Misdemeanor up to a $500 fine

• Burning of any kind on commercial property – Fines and Jail Time dependent on size and nature

• Surface Burning of Land Clearing Debris – Escalating fines starting at $1000 per occurrence

• Illegal Dumping/Disposal by Fire – Subject to arrest, escalating quickly

As of today, we have two Type 6 single resources and one Strike Team Leader deployed across various parts of Texas, assisting with ongoing wildfire response efforts.

Our Strike Team Leader is currently deployed with Strike Team 188 in the Amarillo area. Since being deployed, the team has responded to five wildfires, working alongside the Bomb City Task Force to support suppression efforts and protect communities throughout the area.

We’re proud of our personnel who continue to answer the call wherever they are needed across the state. 🔥🚒

And this is just one of our crews currently deployed - stay tuned over the next few days as we share updates from our two Type 6 single resources working in other parts of Texas.

Last week, MCESD 1 Fire Academy Class 004 completed their TCFP Rope Rescue Awareness and Operations training. Our new training tower, funded by the community, for the community, allows MCESD 1 to conduct a broader range of training that would otherwise have required sending students to outside schools.

Throughout the program, cadets developed the knowledge and hands-on skills needed to safely operate in rope rescue environments, including rope and equipment familiarization, knots and hitches, anchoring systems, mechanical advantage, rappelling, raising and lowering systems, and victim rescue operations.

This training challenged Class 004 to use technical skills, teamwork, communication, and problem-solving in situations where attention to detail and safety are crucial.

Strong anchors. Strong systems. Strong teams.

Our crew loved spending the morning with some of the youngest members of our community and their families. Thank you to the R.F. Meador Library for inviting us and to everyone who came out to join the fun!
