Willis Independent School District

Willis Independent School District Welcome to WISD’s official page. WISD may remove off topic or inappropriate comments. Our district honors small-town values and traditions.

Education is exciting for the over 9,000 Willis Wildkats who attend Prekindergarten, one of six elementary schools, three middle schools and one high school. We are a growing K-12 district nestled between the Sam Houston National Forest and Lake Conroe. Higher expectations for student achievement are set every year and are complimented by a comprehensive array of rigorous academic programs includi

ng Gifted and Talented, Career and Technology, Advanced Placement, and Dual Credit courses. College ready juniors and seniors can take Lone Star College courses in their high school classrooms, with some students graduating with more than 40 hours college credit. Through our Career and Technology program, students can acquire skills in variety of areas including architecture and construction, agriculture, audio/video technology, business management, health science, hospitality services and information technology. Certifications in selected fields are available to help students get a quick start on their careers. Our libraries are being transformed into digital learning centers and, through a combination of district provided and student-owned devices, we ensure that our children can access relevant technology in the classroom today to prepare them for the challenges of tomorrow. Our team of professional educators is dedicated to developing a life-long passion for learning in all students. We believe every child counts and every child learns and offer hope for a successful future by teaching every child to think. Individual talents and valuable life skills are enriched through our athletic, fine arts and extracurricular programs. We’re a community that pulls together for our kids and develops personal connections with them and their families. At the same time, we’re focused on preparing our students to live and work successfully in the global community of the 21st century. For more information visit www.willisisd.org.

The Willis ISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved the appointment of Kristie Wallace as principal of Lagway Elementary School during its regular meeting on Tuesday, June 10. Wallace succeeds Kameron Wilder, who retired at the conclusion of the 2025-26 school year following years of dedicated service to the students, staff, and families of Lagway Elementary.

Wallace joins Willis ISD with 17 years of experience in education, including eight years in campus leadership. She currently serves as assistant principal at Wilkinson Elementary in Conroe ISD, where she has played a key role in supporting instructional excellence, campus operations, student achievement, and school safety.

“Mrs. Wallace is a proven leader who is passionate about serving students and building strong relationships with staff and families,” said Dr. Kimberley James, Superintendent of Willis ISD. “Her experience, commitment to academic excellence, and student-centered approach make her an outstanding fit for Lagway Elementary. We are excited to welcome her to the Wildkat family.”

Wallace holds a Master of Educational Administration from Lamar University and has extensive experience in instructional leadership, campus improvement, student support systems, and teacher development.

“Thank you for the opportunity to serve the Willis ISD community as the proud new principal of Lagway Elementary School," Wallace remarked. "As I move forward and build upon the great success of the campus, I’m eager to partake in the Friday Night Lights and all of the wonderful traditions that Willis ISD encompasses. I look forward to building relationships with students, staff, and families as we work together to sustain the great success of Lagway, where every child can thrive and reach their full potential.”

As principal, Wallace will lead Lagway Elementary in continuing its tradition of excellence while supporting the academic, social, and emotional growth of every student.

This spring, students in grades 3-8 and select high school students participated in the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR).

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) has released STAAR End-of-Course (EOC) assessment results for English I, English II, Algebra I, Biology, and U.S. History. These results are available beginning today, June 10. STAAR results for students in grades 3-8 will be released on Tuesday, June 16.

The school year may be over, but the learning continues!

This week, 105 Willis ISD educators participated in the inaugural EdTech Beach Bash, a day of hands-on professional learning focused on innovative instructional strategies and educational technology.

Teachers customized their learning experience by choosing sessions led by guest presenters from Leslie Fisher, IXL, Curipod, My Short Answer, and Knowt, along with sessions facilitated by Willis ISD's own iCoach Team.

With 14 presenters sharing practical strategies and emerging educational technology tools, participants left with new ideas and resources they can bring directly into their classrooms next school year.

The school year may be on pause, but our commitment to student success never takes a summer break!
