Yesterday afternoon the Williston Park Fire Department was alerted for a car fire next to the house. 8600 arrived on scene and found 2 car fires in the driveway with extension to the side of the house and transmitted a signal 10 (working fire). Engine 861 was the first due engine and quickly stretched a hand line and extinguished the fire and prevented further extension into the home. Units operated on scene for approximately 45 minutes.

We are actively watching the weather forecast for Sunday and Monday just like everyone else. Obviously some of the numbers are impressive but the preparation of the WPFD is the same. Firehouse, apparatus and equipment are ready to go. We ask that all residents PLEASE do the following to help us make things better for you and your neighbors if there is an emergency during and immediately after the storm…

1-Move all cars off the street, this allows the plows to get the road clearer and emergency vehicles to move safely through.

2-Do not drive, we don’t need extra vehicles stuck in snow blocking roads.

3-Most important shovel fire hydrants adjacent to or near your property. We saw right here in Nassau County after the last storm when firefighting efforts were hampered by buried hydrants. This is something we cannot stress enough. The delay this causes may be the difference in saving you or your loved one’s property or lives.

The WPFD is 100% committed to our village and neighbors. If you help us and each other make things a little easier it will benefit everyone!
