From Chief Rolls:
Spoofers are targeting our citizens pretending to be Williston area businesses...
What is Spoofing?
Spoofing is when a caller deliberately falsifies the information transmitted to your caller ID display to disguise their identity. Scammers often use neighbor spoofing so it appears that an incoming call is coming from a local number, or spoof a number from a company or a government agency that you may already know and trust. If you answer, they use scam scripts to try to steal your money or valuable personal information, which can be used in fraudulent activity.
You can file an illegal caller ID spoofing complaint online through the FCC Consumer Complaint Center, by calling 1-888-225-5322, or by selecting the "Unwanted Calls/Texts" option to report your own number being spoofed or general scam calls.
How to File
1) Online Form: Visit the FCC Complaint Portal, choose Phone, and select Unwanted Calls/Texts as your issue.
2) By Phone: Call 1-888-CALL-FCC (1-888-225-5322).
3) By Mail: Send details to the Federal Communications Commission, Consumer and Governmental Affairs Bureau, Consumer Inquiries and Complaints Division, 445 12th Street, S.W., Washington, DC 20554.
