🚑🚒 TRAINING NIGHT 🚒 🚑

Our crews are back at it, this week's training topic is vehicle extrication. Here we work with our call staff on stabilizing and gaining initial entry into a vehicle. Our crews work to challenge themselves on the training grounds, so we are better prepared in the streets.

🔥Busy day…🔥

đźš‘ đźš’

Your Firefighters have been putting in the work today, with multiple concurrent emergencies, including an off road medical emergency in the Mud Pond area requiring the use of our Utility Terrain Vehicle. Our crews provided paramedic level care to the patient while cautiously transporting her from the trail to our awaiting ambulance. At the same time, The Essex Junction Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle crash with our Rescue 2 in Taft Corners, a third medical call required Rescue 2 to quickly clear the crash scene to render aid to a sick patient in a nearby business.

Just as units were freeing up, we received a fourth call for a vehicle fire on the Interstate. Here members of E-1 and E-3 work to suppress the fire. A fifth emergency call, for a motor vehicle crash on the interstate, summoned Williston Rescue 1, to aid and transport the injured patient.

Units are still returning equipment to service at this time…

🔥Training Night🔥

This weeks Department training is focusing on Chimney Fires. According to the NFPA 46% of heating equipment fires occur in a three month period, December through February. Our training focused on wood fired heating appliances, chimney construction, Fire Dynamics, fire control, apparatus positioning, ergonomics, risk management, firefighter safety, and customer service.

We would like to remind our community to have their heating appliances inspected and chimneys cleaned as cool weather approaches.

🔥 Realistic Training. Real Dedication. Real Firefighting. 🔥

This past weekend, the Williston Fire Department proudly hosted a three-day live fire training event right here in Williston, Vermont — coordinated through the New England FOOLS, a fraternal group of accomplished firefighters and fire instructors from across New England and beyond.

This large-scale training brought together more than 125 firefighters who completed over 194 skills evolutions under live fire and smoke conditions. Participants trained in search and rescue, ventilation, fire suppression, firefighter rescue, and forcible entry — all designed to sharpen their skills and strengthen teamwork for real-world emergencies.

This effort was made possible through the coordinated support of:
🚒 Chittenden Solid Waste District – property owner and partner
đźš’ Williston Fire Department
đźš’ Burlington Fire Department
đźš’ Shelburne Fire Department
🏗️ Local business partners: The Home Depot, Curtis Lumber, L&W Supply, Rhino Foods, and Firehouse Subs

Together, we’re building stronger, safer communities through collaboration, commitment, and a shared dedication to excellence in the fire service.

At approximately 3:00 pm on October 4, 2025 the Williston Fire Department received a report of a possible wildland fire in the area of Brownell Mountain. The fire was reported by aircraft to the Burlington International Airport FAA tower. Williston Fire Department confirmed an active fire on top of the Mountain. Assistance from the Wildland Fire Control Team from Vermont Forests, Parks, and Recreation was requested. A second alarm was struck summoning resources from the Hinesburg, Richmond, Essex, Charlotte, and Underhill-Jericho Fire Departments. Ground crews found an active fire approximately 1 acre in size which was threatening nearby critical infrastructure. The fire was not easily accessible for ground crews. Steep terrain and waning daylight prompted a special request for an air asset which was staged at the Lebanon, NH airport. A helicopter performed multiple water drops in the active fire area to slow fire progress. The Williston Police Department provided traffic control in the area while the helicopter was operating. The fire remains active on the mountain and ground resources will reconvene on Sunday, October 5, 2025 for continued containment and suppression activities. At this time, no private homes are in danger. No injuries have been reported.

The Williston Fire Department would like to offer special thanks to the Shelburne Communications Center for their professional coordination of many resources for this response. The American Red Cross provided canteen and hydration services for the approximately 35 members operating at the fire.

The Williston Fire Department would like to remind the public that Open Burning is not allowed at this time due to extremely dry conditions.
