Building Bright Futures

Building Bright Futures Building Bright Futures (BBF) is a nonprofit organization working to improve the wellbeing of young children and families in Vermont.

As a 501c3 nonprofit charitable organization appointed through Act 104, BBF has legislative authority to monitor, improve, and advocate for Vermont’s youth and families across a variety of industries such as healthcare, childcare, and education. We do this through three program areas:

Community: Providing Vermonters with a platform to share their voice through 12 Regional Councils; each represent

ing a Vermont community and its unique needs. Data: Compiling relevant data on Vermont’s children and families through BBF’s Vermont Insights program. Policy: Improving laws and policies that impact the lives of Vermont’s children and families. Our goal is to align community action with state policy. Vermonters’ voices directly contribute to state policy by allowing us to make informed improvements in access, quality, and equity of early care, health, and education for families and young children ages 0-8.

Early educators in Vermont do deeply meaningful, emotionally demanding work — yet many experience high levels of burnout. That burnout is closely connected to low compensation and challenging working conditions, underscoring the need to better value the profession.

We know how busy you are, and we’re really grateful to everyone who’s taken a few minutes to share their perspective already.

If you haven’t yet, there’s still time to complete the Vermont Early Care & Education Workforce Survey (open through March 31) from our partners at Child Trends. It takes about 10 minutes and helps inform decisions that impact Vermont’s early childhood workforce and programs.

📧 Check your email for your unique survey link (and please don’t share it publicly).

You may also see another survey come through from First Children’s Finance. Even if they seem similar, each one is used differently and helps strengthen different parts of this shared work. If you’re able to complete both, thank you—we truly appreciate it.

When Vermont families helped update the Early Childhood Strategic Plan 2030, they shared a common concern: meeting basic needs is becoming harder.

Stable housing, nutritious food, reliable transportation, and access to health care create the foundation children need to thrive. That’s why the plan’s first goal focuses on ensuring all children and families have their basic needs met.

Learn more about the plan and ways to get involved.
