On 8/1/2026, between approximately 1945 and 2345 hours, the Williston Police Department conducted a safety checkpoint on Williston Road near Engineers Drive in Williston, VT. The goal of the checkpoint was to increase roadway safety by deterring and detecting impaired operators and ensuring that vehicle occupants were properly using safety restraints. During the checkpoint, approximately 698 vehicles traveling eastbound were contacted. Two operators were arrested for Driving Under the Influence.

The Williston Police Department would like to thank the South Burlington Police Department, Essex Police Department, Morristown Police Department, Vermont Highway Patrol, Vermont State Police, Grand Isle County Sheriff’s Department, and Colchester Police Department for their assistance in making our roadways safer throughout the checkpoint.

The Williston Fire Department is proud to congratulate Firefighter Alex Lewis on his NREMT Paramedic Certification this month!

Alex successfully completed the rigorous paramedic program at Vermont State University, where he dedicated hundreds of hours to classroom instruction, hands-on skills training, clinical rotations, and ambulance field internships. This demanding process required extensive education, practical experience, and a commitment to providing the highest level of prehospital emergency care.

Achieving the NREMT Paramedic certification is a significant accomplishment and reflects Alex’s hard work, perseverance, and dedication to serving our community. We are excited to have another highly trained paramedic on our team and look forward to the outstanding care Alex will continue to provide to the residents and visitors of Williston.
