On Friday, May 29th, we had the pleasure of swearing in our newest officer, Ofc. Dendy. Ofc. Dendy started at Willits PD in 2024 as a Community Services Officer. Ofc. Dendy wished to progress his career in law enforcement and has successfully completed the police academy. He will now begin his training as our newest police officer. Pictured (left to right) are Field Training Ofc. Angell, Chief Fay, Ofc. Dendy, and Field Training Ofc. Gale for his graduation. Congratulations, Ofc. Dendy!

This week is Dispatcher Appreciation Week, April 12th - 18th, 2026.

Dispatchers answer emergency and non-emergency lines while gathering important information from the caller while simultaneously entering that information into the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system and broadcasting relevant information to responding units over the radio. All of this is completed while remaining calm and getting accurate information during sometimes uncertain emergencies.

At Willits PD, dispatchers are also responsible for a numerous other tasks such as sending reports and legal documents to the court or other agencies, receiving public requests at the front counter, and other administrative tasks. Needless to say, our dispatchers are excellent multi-taskers!

Please join us in celebrating not only our dispatchers, but dispatchers everywhere, as the unsung heroes in public safety for their vital role in serving the City of Willits and beyond. Thank you!

Kids today face growing digital threats, from misuse of personal photos and AI-generated ā€˜deepfakes’, to scams used to trick them. This Safer Internet Day, February 10th, join the ICAC Task Forces in taking action.

The following resources were designed to:
Ā· Open the Dialogue: Start honest conversations about online harms.
Ā· Normalize Reporting: Encourage kids to speak up early when things feel wrong.
Ā· Act Fast: Use clear guidelines to respond to warning signs immediately.

No child is responsible for being deceived. They deserve protection and a safe space to ask for help. Ensure the youth in your life know they can reach out anytime, for any reason.

Congrats to Willits Police Department’s newest Police Officer

Last month we had the pleasure of attending the Santa Rosa Junior College Basic Police Academy graduation of our latest Willits Police Department recruit, Officer Steven Duran. Officer Duran grew up in the area and attended local schools. Officer Duran previously served as a Fire Captain with the Brooktrails Fire Department.

In the City of Willits City Council Chambers, surrounded by family and friends, Officer Duran was sworn in by Willits City Clerk Delores Pedersen. Officer Duran is currently in the second phase of his field training program.

Please join us in congratulating Officer Duran on his recent graduation and for his accomplishments in the training program thus far.
