💊 DEA NATIONAL PRESCRIPTION DRUG TAKE BACK DAY

The Willits Police Department would like to remind the citizens of Willits and Mendocino County about the importance of safely disposing of expired, unused, or unwanted medications.

In recognition of the DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, we want to inform our community that a medication and needle disposal drop-off box is available in the lobby of the Willits Police Department.

Our department and community mourn the passing of retired Police Chief, Scott Warnock.

Chief Warnock dedicated many years to the Willits Police Department in many roles and serving the residents of the City of Willits, Mendocino County, and beyond.

Chief Warnock began his law enforcement career as a reserve officer in 1978 with the San Diego Police Department. Warnock also served the US Navy aboard the USS O'Callahan during his time as a reserve officer for San Diego.

Upon moving to Willits, Chief Warnock worked for the Mendocino Public Defender's Office as an Attorney Investigator, and later the Mendocino County District Attorney's Office as a DA Inspector. Chief Warnock retired from public service in 2007 under the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control as a Supervising Investigator.

In 2008, Warnock answered the call to serve again and accepted an offer to join the Willits Police Department as an extra-help police officer. In service to the City of Willits he worked as a patrol officer, school resource officer, and detective. Warnock accepted the role of Interim Chief in 2016 and was later appointed as permanent Chief in 2017 until he retired again in 2020.

We extend our most heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside him.

MISSING PERSON INVESTIGATION & INFORMATION RELEASE

Update 08/18/26: Mr. Mandujano was located this morning and pronounced deceased. Additional information will be released by the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office through a press release. In light of this news, the Willits Police Department offers its condolences to Mr. Mandujano's family, friends, and all in our community impacted by his loss.

MANDUJANO was last in contact with his family on Saturday, 08/15/2026 at 1200 hrs. MANDUJANO indicated to family members that he would attend Reggae On The River concert in Laytonville but would return home following the event.

At 0300 hrs on Sunday, 08/16/2026, his cell phone location was found by family at McCaffrey's Tow in Laytonville where it was later determined that his vehicle, a silver 2007 Toyota Yaris, was involved in a traffic collision near the area of Empire Rest Area (Laytonville) but he was not present with the vehicle when it was towed. MANDUJANO's whereabouts are unknown.

🚨 SCAM CALL ALERT - WILLITS POLICE DEPARTMENT 🚨

The Willits Police Department is reminding community members to remain vigilant following reports of scam calls targeting members of the public.
Scammers may impersonate law enforcement officers, government agencies, courts, financial institutions, or other trusted organizations in an attempt to obtain money or personal information. These callers may use official-sounding language, threats, or a sense of urgency to pressure you into acting quickly.

Remember:
• Law enforcement will not demand immediate payment over the phone to avoid arrest, warrants, fines, or other legal consequences.
• Never provide your Social Security number, bank account information, credit/debit card numbers, passwords, or other sensitive information to an unsolicited caller.
• Do not send money, purchase gift cards, or transfer funds because of a threatening or unexpected phone call.
• Caller ID can be spoofed. A call appearing to come from a legitimate agency or local phone number does not necessarily mean the caller is legitimate.
• If you receive a suspicious call, hang up and independently verify the information before taking any action.

It may seem fun to entertain a scammer for your own amusement over the phone, however there have been instances of scammers spoofing individual’s personal cell phone numbers in order to attempt to scam their close friends and family. Willits Police Department highly encourages not continuing communications with individuals who seem suspicious.

If someone claims to be a member of the Willits Police Department or another agency and you are unsure whether the call is legitimate, you can always contact the Willits Police Department directly to verify the information.

We had a great time last night for National Night Out 2026! Special thanks for our donors to help make our event a great success; Willits Police Officers Association for fun activities and NNO swag, Ace Copy & Shipping for coloring page copying, Willits Safeway with much needed water for the crowd, and Ukiah Walmart with nearly 50 school supply kits to distribute! Booths this year included American Legion Post 174, Lake/Mendocino Red Cross, and the Girl Scouts of Nothern California.

Great news, we still have a few school supply bags to give away! Kits include crayons, pens, pencils, glue sticks, ruler, and folders in a reusable bag. If you're interested, stop by Willits PD to pick up yours today!

We're looking forward to seeing you at National Night Out 2026! Willits PD will be at Bud Snider Park from 5pm-8pm on Tuesday, August 4th!

Willits is invited to join over 38 million neighbors across 17 thousand communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories and military bases worldwide. National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes strong police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live and work.

Neighbors across the nation are asked to lock their doors, turn on their front porch lights and spend the evening outdoors with the community and law enforcement.

Along with the traditional outside lights and front porch vigils, many communities celebrate National Night Out by hosting block parties, festivals, parades, cookouts and other various community events with safety demonstrations, seminars, youth events, visits from emergency personnel, exhibits and more.

The Willits Police Department is proud to stand alongside our Mendocino County law enforcement partners and the Redwood Coast Regional Center to support the local rollout of the Blue Envelope Program! 🚓💙

👉 What is the Blue Envelope Program?
It is a completely voluntary, free, and self-managed initiative designed to improve communication and build trust during traffic stops or emergency situations. It provides a bridge of understanding for community members with conditions like Autism Spectrum Disorder, Dementia, Anxiety, or other communication and developmental challenges.

📂 How It Works on the Road:

-Store Your Essentials: Keep your driver’s license, vehicle registration, and proof of insurance inside the easily identifiable blue envelope.

-Discreet Notification: Handing the envelope to a Willits Police Officer immediately and quietly signals that you may communicate differently, need extra time, or require specific accommodations.

-Clear Guidelines: The outside of the envelope features helpful instructions to keep interactions calm, clear, and safe for everyone involved.

🎒 Beyond the Driver's Seat:
The program isn't just for driving! Community members can also access visual identifiers to help alert first responders in other environments. Free materials include:

On Saturday, July 4th, 2026, the City of Willits will be hosting the annual Frontier Days Parade. The Willits Police Department seeks the assistance of those residents who live on the parade route, detour route, and parade staging areas in keeping the streets clear on July 4th. The Willits Police Department seeks your assistance and cooperation in making the Frontier Days Parade an enjoyable family experience.

🚧 The following streets with be affected by the parade:
East Commercial Street, South Main Street, East Valley Street, and South Lenore Avenue.
