Guri Endreson Cabin The Guri Endreson Cabin was built by Lars and Guri Endreson in 1858. One of the few buildings left still standing from the U.S. Dakota War of 1862.

The Guri Endreson Cabin is located near Solomon Lake, north of Willmar, MN.

The Guri Endreson Cabin is open for the season! It will remain open until Labor Day weekend. Remember it is only open on the weekends. For more information or to visit it during the week, you need to contact the Historical Society at 320-235-1881.

Please be kind and respectful of the landowners surrounding the cabin.

On this day, Gertrude Endreson married Oscar Erickson in 1859. Gertrude is the fourth child of Guri and Lars Endreson. Oscar and Gertrude lived in Meeker County and then after her mother, Guri Endreson, died, they moved to the Guri Endreson Cabin on Solomon Lake. They lived there until Oscar's death in 1911. Gertrude then moved into Willmar to lived with her daughter, Ella Olson, until her death in 1918. Together, they had ten children: Alec, Andrew, Nellie Tweto, Ole, Amund, Martha McDonald, Anna Berg, Ella Olson, Laura Hart, and Lars.

On this day in 1840, Gertrude Larsdatter Endreson was born to Lars and Guri Endreson in Kvam, Norway. She was the fourth child born to them.
She traveled to Minnesota with her parents at the age of 16. She married Oscar Erickson June 16, 1859 in Minnesota. The cabin they lived at during the U.S. Dakota War of 1862, located between Foot and Eagle Lake, was the site where her mother, Guri, her brother Olav and sister, Anna, found injured Oscar Erickson and Solomon Foot and brought them to safety. After her mother passed, Oscar and Gertrude lived at the site of the Guri Endreson Cabin until Oscar's death in 1911. She lived the rest of her life in Willmar. She passed away on October 22, 1918 and is buried at Vikor Lutheran Cemetery.

On this day in 1854, Helga Larsdatter Rosseland (1832-1896) married Lars Arneson Byrkjeland (1822-1903). Helga is the oldest daughter of Lars and Guri Endreson. Helga did not travel with her parents to Minnesota. They lived on the Byrkjeland farm until 1857 when Helga's parents left for Minnesota. They moved to a small farm just north of the Rosseland farm. After her father died in 1862, Helga and family moved to the Rosseland farm where the last nine of her 13 children were born.

On this day in 1848, Ole Endreson was born to Guri and Lars Endreson in Norway. He traveled with his family to Kandiyohi County in 1857. He was 9 years old when he came to Minnesota. He survived the U.S. Dakota War of 1862. When the cabin they lived at was attacked, Ole was injured. He helped his mother, Guri, rescue Oscar Erickson and Solomon Foot during the U.S. Dakota War of 1862. He passed way in 1863 from the injures he sustained in August 1862. It is unknown where he is buried.
