We're only five months away from Governor's Fire Prevention Day at the Minnesota State Fair! Posts will have an opportunity to practice many of the events at the spring friendly at Fridley on Saturday, April 22. Registration is open on the MN-FEA website (link in the comments). This is a free event for registered Explorers and posts.

The funeral for fallen Blomkest Firefigher Ryan Erickson will take place on Friday, May 20th at the Refuge Church in Willmar. To honor Firefighter Erickson and accommodate for emergency vehicles, the following parking and traffic plan will be in effect this Friday.

- All visiting fire apparatus and emergency vehicles should enter the area from Willmar Ave SE onto 2nd St SE. Proceed to 2nd St / 11th Ave SE and a staging officer will direct you from there. (Emergency Services will use radio talkgroup STAC 4)

- There will be temporary no parking signs placed on 2nd St, part of 4th St, 11th Ave and 6th St SE. Some of this area will be designated for fire apparatus and emergency vehicles (check in with staging first).

- A limited procession to include Firefighter Erickson, his family and department will depart the Refuge Church at approximately 4pm to the cemetery near Blomkest. This route through Willmar will be 6th St to Willmar Ave, east on Willmar Ave to 19th Ave, south on 19th Ave to enter onto the Hwy 71/23 bypass and exit the City of Willmar.

Our thoughts and prayers continue for the family of Firefighter Erickson, the Blomkest Fire Department and the entire Blomkest community.

Good Morning Everyone and Happy Monday!

The Willmar Fire Explorers program will be having training tonight from 6:30PM-9:00PM at the Willmar Fire Department. If you or anyone you know is interested please stop down and check out this awesome program. Lots of great hands on training tonight!

Age Requirements to join:

14 yrs old and completed 8th grade up to 20 years old.

Male and females welcome!

You don’t have to live within Willmar to join.

Great Job to all Willmar Fire Explorers who participated in the Willmar Fire Department’s CPR/AED certification training. Besides being certified in CPR & AED, they received training on operating the Lucas devices.

NOW ACCEPTING NEW MEMBERS!!

The Willmar Fire Explorers program provides a once in a life time opportunity for boys and girls to learn and train to be firefighters/first responders. Ages 14 and past 8th grade up to 20 yrs old are welcome and you don’t have to be from Willmar to join. We have participants from many different communities. Our program is structured to provide insight on how rewarding a career in firefighting can be along with how to build the skill set needed to help save another person. Our students receive certification in CPR/AED along with opportunities for scholarships for post secondary education.

It was a great training and so happy to have our group back together after a break from all trainings due to COVID-19. With extra safety precautions in place to assure the safety and well being of everyone, Our Explorers got to operate one of our Ladder trucks tonight. The explorers also refreshed on how to operate fire hydrants.
