Teens and tweens are invited to come to the library a week from today and meet Erin Makela, author of the YA historical fiction book, Worthy of Trust. Erin is an educator from Worthingon, MN, and will be here to help aspiring authors, ages 8 - 18, learn more about writing books and the publishing process with a mini writer's workshop. She will also share with us from her book that was on the 2026 Minnesota Book Award list for YA literature. This event is free and will be held Tuesday, June 9, from 1:00 - 2:30 p.m. We hope to see you there! You could win a free signed copy of her book just by attending the event. (Teens doing the summer reading program who attend the event will gain an entry into the drawing for the prize baskets!)

Jack is a curious kid who loves adventures, exploring, and digging up new ideas. When he finds a magic bean, he plants it in hopes of growing lots of food for his family. Much to Jack’s surprise, it grows a giant beanstalk that stretches all the way into the sky. Being the adventurer he is, Jack climbs the beanstalk and discovers the Land of the Giants. However, in this new land, Jack just can’t keep his hands to himself and keeps taking things that don’t belong to him. With the help of the audience, Jack learns to own up to his actions and plant a SEED to succeed.

The interactive performance is around 35 minutes long and is best suited for children up to 10 years old.

Oh yeah, it's true.

The Summer Reading Program is almost here.

If you're a bad seed like me, you might not care. But if you're a good egg, I'll give you some details about it.

For kiddos ages 4-12, there's some stuff you gotta do to register:
-decorate your name on an egg (not a bad seed, like me)
-pick out a free book
-start working on weekly challenges to earn Book Bucks

What's that? You don't know what Book Bucks are? Well, they're just like money, but you can only spend them at the library. And there are some really cool prizes up for sale. Save or spend, it's up to you.

Did I mention there's more? Each challenge you complete enters your name into a drawing for a monthly prize.

If your good little egg is younger (0-3), sign them up for the Rubber Ducky Club. Any guesses what they get when they are registered? Yup. A rubber ducky. It's pretty cute.

While these good little eggs maybe can't read themselves, the time you spend reading, talking, singing, playing with them counts for their Rubber Ducky Club tracker. And for every 4 hours tracked, they get another prize.

Is it a sweet deal? Sure.

Should you sign up? Absolutely.

Don't be a baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad seed. Come to the library. And do the Summer Reading Program.

P.S. If you haven't read "The Bad Seed" by Jory John, you really should. It's pretty sassy, like this post. "The Good Egg" by the same guy isn't a bad book either.
