HOUSING CHOICE VOUCHER PROGRAM ACCEPTING PRE-APPLICATIONS
The McLeod County Housing and Redevelopment Authority (HRA) will be accepting waiting list pre-applications for the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) rental assistance program beginning June 15, 2026 at 8:00 am and ending September 30, 2026 at 4:30 pm from households who meet one or more of the preferences described below. The HCV program assists eligible households by paying a portion of their rent to a landlord.
The program waiting list is sorted first by pre-applications received with the most verified preference points followed by date and time pre-applications are received. Each of the following preferences equal one (1) point:
Disabled: an applicant will receive one preference point if they are a family that includes a disabled person. The applicant must provide the HRA a copy of the disabled member's current Supplemental Security Income (SSI) award letter or a signed statement from a knowledgeable professional stating the household member is disabled.
Elderly: an applicant will receive one preference point if the head, spouse, or co-head is 62 years old or older. The applicant must provide the HRA a copy of a State issued photo ID with birth date, official record of birth or current Social Security retirement benefits award letter as proof of age.
Resident of McLeod County: an applicant will receive one preference point if at the time of pre-application, the head of household, spouse or co-head lives or works in McLeod County or attends education and training programs in McLeod County if the education or training program is designed to prepare applicants for the job market. The household must provide the HRA a copy of a current lease, statement from a shelter or state issued photo ID showing an address in McLeod County in order to prove the household lives in McLeod County. The household must provide the HRA a current pay stub from an employer located in McLeod County to prove the household works in McLeod County. The household must provide the HRA a copy of proof of enrollment at an institution of higher learning or training program located in McLeod County to show the household attends school or an eligible training program in McLeod County.
Veteran: an applicant will receive one preference point if the head, spouse or co-head is currently serving in the armed forces or has been honorably discharged from the armed forces. The applicant must provide the HRA a copy of a current military ID or DD214 form as proof of military service.
In order to be added to the HRA's waiting list and be given any preference points, households must provide proof of the preferences as described above.
The McLeod County Housing and Redevelopment Authority is located at 2200 23rd St NE, Suite 2090, Willmar, MN 56201. Office hours are Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. Interested persons can receive a pre-application during the above dates in person or by calling (320) 235-8637 x2862 or email [email protected] to receive a pre-application by mail or email. Pre-applications can be returned to the HRA office in person, by mail, by email [email protected] or fax (320) 235-7831.
