ATV Crash With Injuries

Green Lake Township, Kandiyohi County, Minnesota – On 09/04/2026, at approximately 1729 hours, the Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office responded to an ATV crash with injuries. The crash was reported in the 10000 block of 82nd Ave NE in rural Spicer.

Upon arrival, deputies determined that two juveniles were each operating an ATV on private property when the ATVs collided. As a result of the collision, one of the ATVs tipped over onto its juvenile rider.

The injured juvenile was transported by air ambulance to Hennepin County Medical Center with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The other juvenile was not injured. Both riders were wearing helmets at the time of the collision.

Assisting the Sheriff’s Office were Spicer First Responders, Spicer Fire Department,
Life Link III, New London Ambulance and CentraCare Ambulance.

This crash remains under investigation.

Earlier this week Kandiyohi-Meeker SWAT along with Willmar PD SWAT travelled to Camp Ripley for several days of on-site training using the urban building training sites and ranges. To help offset training costs the teams received generous product donations from Jenniges Meats in Brooten and Carlson Meats in Grove City. After long days of training the teams were able to relax and grill their meals. Pictured here is the Kandiyohi-Meeker team along with business shout outs and a huge thank you!

RE: Motorcycle Crash in Irving Township

Irving Township, Kandiyohi County, Minnesota

On August 23, 2026, at approximately 7:08 p.m., the Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office was advised of a motorcycle that had gone off the roadway in the 13,000 block of 175th Street Northeast in Irving Township.

Upon arrival, deputies learned that 24-year-old Samuel Arthur Hoffenkamp of rural Hawick was operating a 2011 Harley-Davidson Street Glide northbound when he failed to navigate a curve. The motorcycle left the roadway and entered the northeastern ditch, where Hoffenkamp laid the motorcycle down.

Hoffenkamp was later transported to CentraCare Hospital in Willmar for treatment. The crash remains under investigation.

The Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Minnesota State Patrol, Atwater Ambulance, and the Atwater Fire Department.

Fatal Motor-Vehicle Crash
Roseville Township

Re: Drivers identified from 8/22/26 fatal crash

The driver involved in the Semi/SUV fatal crash that did not survive was identified as 44 yr old Guillermo Otoniel Castillo Blandon from Willmar, MN. The driver of the semi-truck was identified as 67 yr old David Sandin from Franklin, MN.

RELEASE 8/23/2026
At approximately 1:51 p.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2026, the Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office received a report of a two-vehicle crash with injuries at the intersection of County Road 2 and County Road 33 in Roseville Township.

An SUV driven by a 44-year-old male was traveling eastbound on County Road 33 when it struck a semi-truck pulling a trailer, which was traveling northbound on County Road 2. The semi was driven by a 67-year-old male.

The 44-year-old driver of the SUV was extricated from the vehicle by members of the New London Fire Department and the Kandiyohi County Rescue Squad. Emergency personnel from New London Ambulance and CentraCare Ambulance provided life-saving measures on scene. Despite those efforts, the 44-year-old male was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 67 year-old driver was treated on scene and released.

The crash remains under investigation and names are being withheld pending the notification of family.

The Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Minnesota State Patrol, New London Fire Department, New London Ambulance, Kandiyohi County Rescue Squad, CentraCare Ambulance, and LifeLink.

More local scam activity to report. Our assessor's office has fielded several calls on a scam involving fictitious emails indicating there is a 'State Property Tax Exemption for Seniors in Minnesota'. The email contains several links to click on related to applying for the grant. There is currently NO Tax Exemption option for Seniors in Minnesota. Once a person clicks the scams attached links, there is potential for unwanted access to your computer and the data contained in it, including banking files, etc. If you have been the victim of this scam please call our office for information on how to try and undo a potential hack of your computer.

September 15th and 16th the Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office is hosting the 2026 Mn State TRIAD Conference. This is a free event that brings together senior citizens groups, local law enforcement, and other community members to discuss topics important to our community. Check out the topics listed below and consider coming out to the Willmar Conference Center. All we ask is that you register with us ahead of time, so we have an accurate count for the free meal and treats throughout the event.
There will also be over 20 exhibitors with information available on senior's living and aging well! (Did we mention everything is free!!!)

Female Husky found along 4th Ave SE in New London. No microchip found on the dog. She was brought to the Hawk Creek Animal Shelter.

The latest scam affecting our community involves individuals making contact with families of someone on our jail detention list and falsely stating their loved one had a process change and could now be bailed out if they paid some fees. Another scam falsely referenced the held inmate being eligible for electric home monitoring if a fee was paid. For any such call a person may get, before making a payment you should check that it is a real thing by taking down the caller's info for a possible call back, then make your own call to our jail staff to confirm it is true. You can call 320-214-6700 ext. 6 to be routed to corrections staff.

Motor Vehicle Crash With Injuries

Burbank Township, Kandiyohi County –

On August 6, 2026 at approximately 12:30 p.m. the Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a two vehicle crash with injuries in the 11500 block of 240th Ave NE in Burbank Township. Deputies arrived on scene and observed that a 2000 Oldsmobile Alero had collided with a 2020 Kenworth semi tractor and trailer.

The driver of the semi, 41-year old Cole Ashburn of Willmar, was traveling westbound and slowed to make a right turn into a driveway.

The driver of the Oldsmobile, a 17-year old male from Belgrade, was traveling westbound and collided with the semi tractor while it was turning. The juvenile driver was transported by ambulance to CentraCare-Paynesville Hospital and later airlifted to Children’s Hospital with serious injuries.

Assisting the Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office were CentraCare Ambulance, New London Ambulance, New London Fire Department, Kandiyohi County Rescue Squad, and the MN State Patrol.
