Our thoughts and prayers are with Officer Maddie
We are aware everyone has been wondering what happened to Ptl.Maddie here is a brief statement from her husband and family!! We appreciate all the love, support and prayers that are coming in!!
We have had a very busy 72 hours with two significant storms rolling through the area. Our personnel have responded to over 130 requests for service during that time including motorists stranded in flood waters, fires, medical emergencies, the parking garage collapse in Willowick, and of course trees and power lines down.
Be careful during this time, not all power lines are visible due to the debris on the ground. Between our department and the Willoughby Police and Service Departments, numerous barricades and thousands of feet of banner tape have been placed to keep you safe. We understand the inconvenience of closed roads and sidewalks, but they remain in place for your safety - we don’t know when power will be restored and going around these barriers puts you in jeopardy if electrical service returns. I personally warned someone yesterday about walking into a banner-taped area and was ignored as the pedestrian continued through a marked area.
For your safety, be careful running generators and be aware of the carbon monoxide they produce. If
You’re using candles for light, keep them away from blinds and curtains or anything else that could catch fire - of course we recommend flashlights instead!
The City of Willoughby has posted updates from the Illuminating Company and has periodically opened the senior center to allow for charging cell phones and other devices.
Many have expressed frustration that there wasn’t enough notification of the tornado warning. The county EMA did activate the sirens once the tornado warning was issued, however, you can also receive alerts through this link for future severe weather alerts:

We sincerely hope power is restored as soon as possible and will continue to help you the best we can through this time.

Yesterday, we sent two engine companies into Cleveland to allow all of their on-duty firefighters to attend the funeral of fallen Firefighter Johnny Tetrick. Engine 1414 staffed Station 10 along with the North Royalton Fire Department, and Engine 1424 staffed Station 36 with the Olmsted Falls Fire Department.
It was an honor to help the Cleveland Fire Department and truly showed the brotherhood and sisterhood of firefighters from the entire Cleveland area. Our thoughts and prayers remain with the CFD and the Tetrick family.
It is an honor and a privilege to be a part of this.
More than 150 suburban firefighters have volunteered to cover the Cleveland Division of Fire on Saturday to allow the city’s officers to attend funeral services for one of their own.
From our family to yours, have a wonderful Thanksgiving
Our hearts go out to our brothers and sisters in the Willoughby Police Department as they mourn the loss of Retired Lieutenant Jack Poshe. Lt. Poshe was known by our firefighters as a no-nonsense officer who had our backs any time we needed their assistance. We are very sorry for Jack’s personal and professional families.
View JACK W. POSHE JR.'s obituary, contribute to their memorial, see their funeral service details, and more.
Great training opportunity today with the Euclid Fire Department at Cuyahoga Community College. Our firefighters practiced several techniques and improved their skills under live fire conditions. Thank you to Euclid FD and Tri-C FTA for a worthwhile day.

We responded to the Skylight Inn on Maplegrove at 3:34 this afternoon for a fire alarm; while units were enroute, Dispatch began to receive calls for smoke on the second floor. The battalion chief upgraded the alarm to include mutual aid departments and on arrival, Engine 1413 reported black smoke on the second floor and found a fire in one of the rooms. Occupants were evacuated and the fire was quickly extinguished and overhauled. No victims were located and there were no injuries to any occupants or firefighters. The fire remains under investigation.
Thank you to the mutual aid departments who responded to help us out!
