6/12 10:45A: A disaster declaration has been issued by Gillespie County Judge Daniel Jones in support of New World Screwworm incident response and community impacts.

A local disaster declaration allows public officials and agencies to focus on emergency response relating to state and federal screwworm operations and also starts the process for additional state resources and possible recovery resources and support in the future.

Local officials continue to coordinate with lead state and federal response agencies, maintain situational awareness of evolving response, and share information and educational resources to the public.

We have received several generalized questions about gas safety and prevention from residents. We wanted to share a few resources for those interested in learning more about gas safety and emergencies.

For Atmos Energy users, visit the website below for several steps on leak detection, safety, and emergency actions to take.
https://www.atmosenergy.com/safety/recognizing-leak/

The Propane Council of Texas (Propane Can Do That Texas) also has a website for propane safety, which includes gas leak detection and system maintenance references for download.

As always, report all suspected gas leaks to 911 immediately so first responders can investigate the issue. Smell Gas? Act fast.
