An update going into the holiday weekend…stay weather aware!!

Fredericksburg/Gillespie County Emergency Management: Additional storms and rainfall is expected for Fredericksburg and Gillespie County, bringing an increased risk for localized flash flooding. The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch from Friday 7 PM to Monday 7 PM. While widespread rain is not expected continuously during the watch, several rounds of scattered thunderstorms will move through the area and bring heavy downpours over areas that receive storms. 1 to 3 inches are possible this weekend. Recent rainfall this month has also made the ground more saturated. Lower rainfall amounts may cause water collection in low-lying areas, swelling of creeks/streams, and water across low water crossings on roadways.

Fredericksburg/Gillespie County Emergency Management encourages residents and visitors to monitor weather conditions and remain aware during the flood watch period. Residents and visitors can also do the following to be prepared:

1. Have multiple ways to receive weather warnings (local alert system, phone apps, weather radio, and local media).

2. Avoid driving on roadways with multiple low water crossings during heavy rainfall if possible. If a roadway has water across it, stop and turn around. Drive slowly during and after storms and maintain elevated awareness of potential low water crossing flood risk.

3. Report all flooded low water crossings to dispatch to inform first response agencies and emergency management. Residents can also report other non-life threatening flooding and storm damage to FBGC Emergency Management through email or social media.

4. If outdoors during the watch period, be weather aware in high flood threat areas. Reconsider outdoor activities that have a greater chance of flood impacts.

5. Share the weather forecast and possible impacts with friends and neighborhoods to increase local awareness of weather.

6. Prepare property that may be in a flood risk area. Ensure gutters and drainage areas are clear.

FBGC Emergency Management will be coordinating with NWS Austin/San Antonio and monitoring before and during local storms. For updated information, follow Fredericksburg/Gillespie County Emergency Management on social media or stay tuned to local media. For additional questions, email [email protected].
