What a kind gesture! Ed was a Lieutenant at our very own Willowick Fire Department.

We received a pretty incredible gift today. Willowick Fire Chief Joe Tennyson recently took delivery of several plaques from a police officer in Australia, who noticed that a roadside memorial was becoming very weathered. The memorial was for a man named Edward Sufilka - Ed was a firefighter-paramedic (self-proclaimed as the “Senior Blueshirt Medic”) in the Willoughby Fire Department, a Lieutenant with the Willowick Fire Department, and a police officer for the Mentor-on-the-Lake Police Department. Ed was bicycling in Australia on December 1, 2004 when he was hit by a truck and killed. Those who knew Ed understood his affinity for cycling, especially in Hawaii and Australia. Any time some obscure place would show up on tv, Ed would proclaim, “Pedaled it!” if he’d ridden his bike there.
The plaques show the condition of the memorial as it was discovered and then rehabilitated with a new picture and dedication.

We are grateful to the officer who took the time and effort to not only make Ed’s memorial respectable again, but to send us the incredible gift - it will be proudly displayed at Fire Station #2 on Lost Nation Road. These plaques were also sent to the Willowick Fire Department and Mentor-on-the-Lake Police Department.

Please considering registering your security camera.

The Willowick Police Department Surveillance Camera Registration And Mapping (S.C.R.A.M) program provides an opportunity for residents and business owners to help officers solve local crimes with the help of video security cameras. With the popular use of security camera systems in communities, video evidence has frequently helped officers develop leads and conclude investigations.

Participation in this program is voluntary.

How it works
Using the geographic location of registered cameras, Willowick Police officers will be able to directly contact a registrant to determine if they have helpful recordings, should a crime occur near the registered security system.

Registration
To register your exterior video security system, please complete the form below and return it by email or return it in person or by standard mail.
https://www.cityofwillowick.com/security-camera-registration-form/

Disclaimer and Terms of Use
Registration is voluntary.
Registration information will be used by the Willowick Police Department only for official
purposes.
Any footage containing or related to criminal activity may be collected by the Willowick
Police Department for use as evidence during any stage of a criminal proceeding.
Under no circumstances should registrants construe they are acting as an agent or employee of the City of Willowick or the Willowick Police Department.
If you wish to withdraw from the program, contact the Willowick Police Department at 440-585-1234

Leaf pickup in the city will begin on Monday, November 30 and run through December 14. Collection of loose leaves will begin in Section 1 and move through the sections sequentially. Once a street has been completed, the crew will not be able to return to that section. Leaves should be raked into the tree lawn and not into the street as they will clog the storm sewers and are a hazard. Please do not pile leaves on hydrants, storm basin inlets or in the gutter line of streets.

Daily updates will be posted on the city’s home page or can be obtained by calling 440-585-3700 and selecting Option 1, Community Announcements. These will be updated daily.

Residents are encouraged to take advantage of unlimited yard waste pickup through Kimble. Kimble’s residential yard waste collection ends the last full week of December and will resume in the spring of 2021. Leaves in kraft bags or containers should be put out on your usual trash pickup day.

Willowick | Great living on a great lake.

From Mayor Regovich

The Willowick community has had a long, proud tradition of being a wonderful place to spend a lifetime. Our 15,000 residents will be the first to tell of their faith, their families, and their friends in Willowick. With our slogan of “Great Living on a Great Lake,” we have redefined our city as a waterfront community. The Larimar development on the shoreline is certainly one of the most exciting additions to the south shore of Lake Erie.

The Shoregate Town Center is a shopping and commercial hub for the city. Two upscale housing developments have provided our residents the opportunity to move up without moving out.
