🔥 Community Notice – Controlled Burn 🔥

The Kanawha Fire Department will be conducting a controlled burn tonight at 5:00 PM (17:00) near County Road 65 and Road D.

Residents should be aware that smoke will be visible west of town during the operation. This is a planned training activity, and there is no cause for alarm.

Today, Kanawha Fire joined our neighboring departments for a community burn in Artois. Training together strengthens our skills, improves communication, and builds the teamwork that is essential when responding to emergencies side by side.

Every opportunity to train together makes us better prepared to serve and protect our communities. Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make today’s training a success. We look forward to many more opportunities to work together.

**Dispatched to a vehicle at 621 p.m. Highway 162 cross street County Road D Engine 80, Engine 84, Engine 850, Engine 854, and Engine 890 all responded and arrived on scene at 6:23pm with the car fully involved 14 firefighters were on scene with traffic control. While others were extinguishing the fire for precaution it was known to all firefighters that the vehicle had live ammunition inside the vehicle there were three explosions of ammunition and a ruptured fuel line which spread the fire to a partial vegetation which was extinguished very rapidly. All in all the car was extinguished and incident was handed over to CHP

Kanawha Fire Incident Report
Date: June 27, 2026�Time of Dispatch: 08:36
Kanawha Fire responded to a report of a smoke investigation at 08:36 hours. Upon arrival, firefighters located an unattended burn pile producing smoke in a rolling hillside area. The burn pile was approximately 100 feet in diameter.
The scene was assessed, and firefighters extinguished the burn pile to eliminate any potential fire hazard and prevent fire spread. The area was checked for any remaining hot spots before units cleared the scene.
No injuries or property damage were reported.

Our Kanawha Fire crew had a great time connecting with our seniors and the whole community. There’s nothing better than volunteering side-by-side, answering questions, sharing resources, and putting smiles on faces.
We absolutely love these events — getting to meet our neighbors, hear their stories, and be a positive presence makes it all worthwhile. Huge thanks to everyone who engaged with our volunteer EMS services and to the organizers for putting on such a valuable resource fair for our seniors!

We would like to extend our sincerest thank you to the Glenn County Resource Conservation District for inviting us to be part of this year’s annual Ice Cream Social!

We always look forward to participating in this wonderful community tradition. It’s a great opportunity to spend time with the families we proudly serve, connect with our community, and support an event that brings everyone together.
