The Willows Water Fest Cardboard Boat Race is coming to Central Park!

📅 Thursday, September 10, 2026
⏰ 4:00–8:00 p.m.
📍 Central Park | Willows

Kids are invited to design, build, decorate, and race their very own miniature cardboard boats! Boats will race across the water in our special race pool — and trophies will be awarded to the winners! 🏆

📦 Think shoebox-sized, not kid-sized!
These are miniature boats — no one is getting in the water. 😄

🎨 Get creative!
🚤 Build your boat!
💦 Race for the finish!
🏆 Compete for a trophy!

HOW WILL YOUR BOAT MOVE? 🌬️🌊
That’s part of the challenge! No batteries, motors, electronics, or mechanical propulsion devices are allowed. Boats may be propelled by blowing, fanning, splashing, or waves created in the water.

The Cardboard Boat Race is part of the FREE Willows Water Fest, celebrating Cal Water’s 100th Anniversary and the City of Willows’ 140th Anniversary!

📣 Start saving that cardboard, get creative, and PLEASE SHARE! Help us spread the word to local families, schools, youth groups, and all the creative young boat builders in our community!

📚 Library Board of Trustees Reminder: Friday, August 21 is the Last Day to Apply!

Friday, August 21 is the deadline to submit an application to be considered for one of three vacancies on the Library Board.

If you are interested in serving your community and helping support the future of our local library, be sure to submit your completed application by the deadline.

Please note: City Hall is normally closed on Fridays, except by appointment. However, the City Clerk will be available on Friday, August 21, for anyone wishing to submit an application.

To arrange a time to submit your application, please call (530) 934-7041 ext. 102.

Waster Tire Amnesty Days: August 15 and September 19!

Drop off up to nine (9) tires per resident (without rims) at the Glenn County Transfer Station west of Artois. For more information contact the Glenn County Public Works Agency at (530) 934-6530.

Candidate Filing Period Extended to August 12

The candidate filing period has been extended to Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.

Under California election law, when an eligible incumbent does not file nomination documents by the close of the regular filing period, the filing period is extended for five calendar days for individuals other than the incumbent.
