🇺🇸 Memorial Day 🇺🇸

Today, the Wilmington Police Department honors and remembers the brave men and women of our Armed Forces who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

Memorial Day is more than a long weekend or the start of summer—it is a day of remembrance for those who gave their lives defending the freedoms we enjoy every day.

We also extend our gratitude to the families of the fallen, whose sacrifice is never forgotten.

As we gather with family and friends today, we encourage everyone to take a moment to reflect on the true meaning of Memorial Day and remember those who never made it home.

From all of us at the Wilmington Police Department, thank you to our fallen heroes. Your courage and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

🚒🔥 International Firefighters Day 🔥🚒

We’re not saying anything… but we’re pretty sure you can’t park there. 😅

All jokes aside, today we recognize and thank the incredible men and women of the Wilmington Fire Department. Whether it’s responding to emergencies, training hard, or even ending up in some less-than-ideal parking situations—they always show up ready to serve.

Your dedication, courage, and commitment to this community do not go unnoticed. We appreciate everything you do, every single day.

Stay safe out there—and maybe stick to staying in between the lines on the roadway. 😉🚒

📘🚓 Wilmington Police Department – Monthly Training Update 🚓📘

As we move into May, April proved to be a productive and training-focused month for the Wilmington Police Department. Our officers and supervisors continue to invest in their skills to better serve our community.

Here’s a look at some of the training completed:

👥 Officers King, Pollard, and Branham successfully completed 40 hours of Crisis Intervention Training (CIT)—enhancing their ability to respond to individuals experiencing mental health crises with care and professionalism.

🚴‍♀️ Officer Grogan completed Bike School, finishing with an impressive 30-mile ride through Northern Kentucky—strengthening our department’s community policing and patrol capabilities.

⚖️ Officers Meadows and Boggs attended a Courtroom Testimony course, gaining valuable knowledge and tools to effectively present cases and testimony in court.

📑 Sergeant Foster completed the Managing & Conducting Internal Investigations (IA) course through FBI-LEEDA, further strengthening leadership and accountability within the department.

Sergeant Powell attended a Precision Rifle course while serving as a support element for the Wilmington Special Response Team, continuing to build tactical readiness.

🏫 School Resource Officer Schroer attended active shooter response training at Blanchester High School, working alongside partner agencies to enhance school safety preparedness, coordination, and rapid response strategies.

We remain committed to ongoing training and professional development to ensure we provide the highest level of service to the Wilmington community.

Good work by all our Officers with their continued education this month!

The 2026 Wilmington Peace Officers Memorial Service is scheduled to commence at one o’clock, Monday, May 11th. National Police Week is May 10th – May 16th.

Again this year, we will gather on the front lawn of the Wilmington United Methodist Church, 50 East Locust Street.

We will be remembering Patrolman Emery McCreight near the site where he was mortally wounded. Marshal John Van Doren and five other members of the department who died while still actively serving will also be remembered, as will Lyndell Suggs, a former Wilmington police officer, who died March 17th, 2026.

In addition to designated on-street parking, the church’s parking lot at the southeast corner of Locust and Walnut Streets will be available to those attending the memorial service.

Refreshments will be served in the Municipal Building’s Robert Moyer Community Room following the memorial service. (The Moyer Community Room will be the alternate site of the memorial service in case of inclement weather).

Please watch the Wilmington Police Department’s page and the Wilmington News-Journal for notification of any change.
