It is with great sorrow that the Wilmington Police Department must announce that retired K9 Karson will cross the Rainbow Bridge today and be laid to rest. K9 Karson’s handler, J.J. Popp, announced that Karson’s health has been declining for the past several months.

Officers from the Wilmington Police Department will be escorting Karson and his family for his final ride and walk to the Suburban Veterinary Clinic in Centerville, Ohio at 2 P.M. today, August 19th.

🚔 ARREST HIGHLIGHT 🚔

On August 17, 2026, Wilmington Police officers responded to Walmart regarding the reported theft of computer equipment actively being pushed out of the store without being paid for.

Officer Alsop arrived and located the suspect vehicle in the front parking lot. During his initial approach of the vehicle , he observed computer equipment inside that still had the store’s security wraps attached. Approximately $3,500 worth of suspected stolen merchandise was recovered. Making this a Felony theft.

Sgt. Foster, Officer Schroer, and Officer Griffith assisted Officer Alsop with the investigation. Two suspects were taken into custody and are suspected of being involved in other recent thefts.

We want to recognize the hard work and dedication of our officers, as well as thank Walmart for their cooperation and the Clinton County Prosecutor’s Office for their continued partnership.

Great police work and teamwork helped get these suspects off the street and recover thousands of dollars in merchandise. 👮‍♂️👏

As we get ready for our Shop with a Cop Bowling fundraiser tomorrow, we’ve been thinking about something that means even more to us than the bowling itself—the incredible community of businesses, organizations, and individuals who came together to make this happen.

It takes a lot to make the Shop with a Cop program possible, and this year, the Clinton County community has shown up in a BIG way. From sponsoring lanes and donating silent auction items, to volunteering, spreading the word, and simply saying, “How can we help?”—each of you has played a part.

🎉 Congratulations, Chief Detective Combs! 🎉

At tonight's Wilmington City Council meeting, we were proud to promote Detective Combs to the rank of Chief Detective.

Chief Detective Combs has faithfully served the Wilmington Police Department for the past 7 years, holding several key roles throughout his career, including Field Training Officer (FTO), Warren County Drug Task Force Detective, and member of the Wilmington Special Response Team (SRT).

His dedication, professionalism, and commitment to serving the citizens of Wilmington have made a lasting impact on our department and community.
