So much work happens behind the scenes to keep our transit system running smoothly—from training and supporting our drivers, to maintaining our vehicles and ensuring daily operations are completed safely and efficiently.

Day in and day out, our Transit team works hard to provide reliable, dependable service to our community and make sure our citizens can get where they need to go.

Happy Friday, Wilmington! ☀️

This week, we’re highlighting some lesser-known facts about our Transit System! 🚌

First, let’s talk about what makes Wilmington Transit different from a traditional cab service. Wilmington Transit is a public transportation provider, meaning our services are designed to provide mobility for people who live, work, and participate in our community.

As a public transit provider, our Transit Department follows regulations and requirements set by the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) and the Federal Transit Administration (FTA). These regulations provide strict guidelines that help ensure our system operates safely and efficiently.

At least half of our Transit funding comes from state and federal sources, which helps us keep fares affordable for our riders:

💵 General Fare: $2
💵 Reduced Fare: $1

To receive a reduced fare, simply stop by the Transit Building, complete a reduced-fare application, and present a valid form of identification.

Individuals who may qualify for reduced fare include:

- Military members and veterans
- Senior citizens
- Individuals with disabilities

Did you know that Wilmington Transit currently has 24 vehicles on the road, with 5 more vehicles coming soon? Our Transit Department also has an in-house car wash and a vehicle lift, allowing our team to perform routine maintenance and keep our vehicles in great condition right here at the Transit garage.

Good morning, Wilmington! 🛣️

Our city streets have received a much-needed facelift over the past few weeks! Our hardworking M&R Department has been busy refreshing the road markings on Main Street and Locust Street, helping give our downtown area a clean and polished look.

In total, 100 gallons of paint have been used to freshen up our streets and improve visibility throughout downtown. 🎨

A big thank you to our M&R team for all of their hard work and dedication to keeping Wilmington looking its best! We appreciate everything you do for our community! 👏

Happy Friday, Wilmington! ☀️

This week, we’re proud to spotlight our Transit drivers and the comprehensive training and safety procedures they complete to help ensure a safe, reliable experience for every passenger.

Before operating a Wilmington Transit vehicle, our drivers complete training in:
✔️ Ethics
✔️ Defensive Driving
✔️ Drug & Alcohol Awareness
✔️ Passenger Assistance
✔️ Bloodborne Pathogens
✔️ Emergency Evacuation Procedures
✔️ Managing Difficult Passengers

Our Transit Department receives more than 10,000 calls each month, helping community members get where they need to go with dedication, professionalism, and a strong commitment to safety and reliable service.

In addition to their required training, each driver completes a pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspection every shift. These inspections help ensure that our vehicles are safe, secure, and ready to transport passengers.

A new month means it's time to spotlight another one of the incredible departments that keeps our city moving. This August, we're proud to feature our Transit Department! 🚌

Our Transit Department is made up of a dedicated team of 62 employees-including 9 full-time staff members and 53 part-time members who work side by side to keep our transit system running smoothly and efficiently.

Throughout the month, we'll take you behind the scenes to showcase the people, processes, and dedication that keep our transit system running smoothly. From our highly trained drivers providing safe and reliable transportation to our dispatchers coordinating routes and schedules to minimizing wait times, every member of the team plays an essential role in serving our community.

Whether it's helping someone get to work, a doctor's appointment, or simply where they need to go, our Transit Department is committed to providing dependable service with care and professionalism.

Davids Drive Phase III Improvements
Road Closure Begins August 17
LOCATION – Davids Drive and Lynne Lane, Wilmington, Ohio

Wilmington, Ohio – The City of Wilmington announces the commencement of Phase 3 of the Davids Drive Improvement Project beginning August 17, 2026. While work is underway, the road closures will be in effect from August 17, 2026, to approximately November 30, 2026.

Davids Drive will be closed to all traffic from Rombach Avenue to Fife Avenue. Lynne Lane will be closed at the Logan Lane intersection, and there will be no access onto Davids Drive. Fife Avenue will remain open with access to Davids Drive.

During this closure traffic detours will be in place utilizing Rombach Avenue/US 22, Progress Way, Airborne Road, and SR 134.

Improvements include full-depth pavement reconstruction, curb and gutter work, drainage improvements, water main extension, new turn lanes, and signage and pavement markings.

The City of Wilmington asks that all motorists be patient, reduce speed, and exercise added caution when traveling near this work zone Questions may be directed to the City Services Office at (937) 382-6509.

Gas Line Construction to begin on Sugartree Street- Monday, August 10

LOCATION – Downtown W. Sugartree St., E. Sugartree St., parts of S Spring St., S. Mulberry St., S. South St., and multiple alleys, Wilmington, OH

The City of Wilmington announces CenterPoint Energy gas line repairs and replacement performed by RLA Utilities. Work will be performed on W. Sugartree St., E. Sugartree St., parts of S Spring St., S. Mulberry St., S. South St., and multiple alleys beginning Monday, August 10, 2026, and lasting until late November. During construction, lane closures, sidewalk closures, parking restrictions, and traffic control measures will be in place and may change frequently.

Happy Friday, Wilmington! It’s time to meet another one of Wilmington’s incredible leaders!

This week, we’re proud to spotlight our Municipal Court Judge, Judge David Henry!

Judge Henry was appointed to the bench in March 2023 and went on to win the May 2023 election. Before serving as Municipal Court Judge, he spent many years working as a prosecutor, bringing valuable experience and dedication to his role.

Since taking the bench, Judge Henry has worked to strengthen our Municipal Court and expand opportunities and resources that help better serve our community.

We’re grateful for the leadership, experience, and commitment Judge Henry brings to Wilmington!

Galvin Park Playground Equipment Upgrades- July 28
LOCATION –Galvin Park- S. South, E. Birdsall, and N. Walnut Streets, Wilmington, Ohio

The City of Wilmington is pleased to announce the installation of new playground equipment at Galvin Park that will take place beginning today, July 28th, weather permitting.

As installation is underway, parkgoers should anticipate increased noise levels, construction equipment in and around the work area, and temporary closures or restricted access near the project site.

The City of Wilmington asks that parkgoers obey all posted signs and fencing, do not enter the active work zone, and supervise children and pets closely while in the park.

We appreciate the community’s understanding and patience during this improvement project.

W. Main Street Between Josephine and Nelson Streets

Wilmington, OH — The City of Wilmington announces a lane closure for Monday July 27. on W. Main Street between Josephine and Nelson Streets for water line maintenance. Traffic will be reduced to one lane, and flaggers will be present to manage the flow of traffic. There will also be water service disruptions for some customers on W. Main Street, N. Nelson Avenue, and W. Locust Street.
