🧡 Wilmington Families, this is a Parent Night you won’t want to miss!

On Tuesday, September 15, Wilmington City Schools will welcome Scott Ervin, “The Kid Whisperer,” for an evening focused on understanding behavior and building positive, supportive environments for children.

So, why Scott? He has spent more than 20 years working with children, including students facing some of the most significant behavioral and life challenges. As an educator, principal, superintendent, and discipline specialist, he made a point of working with the most challenging students and developed classrooms that were both calm and highly successful academically. His approach combines high expectations with a strong focus on relationships, consistency, and teaching positive behaviors.

Scott has also trained educators across the country, taught classroom management at the university level, published The Classroom Behavior Manual, and shares his expertise through his nationally syndicated “Ask the Kid Whisperer” advice column.

📅 Tuesday, September 15
📍 WHS Auditeria
⏰ 6:00-7:00 p.m. presentation + Q&A afterward

Childcare and light refreshments will be provided. Families are asked to RSVP:

This is an opportunity to learn practical strategies from someone who has spent decades helping children, educators, and schools navigate challenging behaviors while creating environments where kids can thrive. We hope to see you there! 🧡🖤

🌟 Portrait of a Student: Makenna Dorsch 🌟

Wilmington High School is proud to recognize Makenna Dorsch as a recipient of the Portrait of a Student award! 🧡🖤

Makenna truly embodies what it means to Learn, Lead, & Serve. For the past two years, she has been a welcoming and positive presence in the WHS office, always ready to lend a hand. Through a work program, she also worked alongside our custodial crews at the Middle School and High School to help prepare our buildings for the new school year.

Her leadership extends far beyond the school walls. Makenna has channeled her creativity and initiative into starting her own poster business, while also serving as a leader on the WHS softball team. She leads by example through her dedication, attitude, sportsmanship, and support of her teammates.

Makenna brings positivity, initiative, and heart to everything she does. We are proud to celebrate her contributions to the Wilmington community! 👏🌟

💙 Supporting the Whole Hurricane 🌪️

This week, our incredible Wilmington Middle School counseling team met with student teams across the building to make sure every student knows they have caring, trusted adults in their corner. From academic goals and social-emotional growth to navigating friendships and the changes that come with middle school, our counselors are here to help every student feel supported, connected, and ready to thrive. 🧡

Our counselors shared three important reminders for a great school year:

✨ Be kind to yourself and others. Everyone is navigating new challenges together.
✨ Mistakes are part of learning. Don't be afraid to ask for help when you need it.
✨ Find your crew. Get involved in clubs, music, sports, or activities that bring you joy!

A huge THANK YOU to our amazing counseling team for starting the year with clarity, compassion, and care. We are so fortunate to have you supporting our students! 👏🌟

🧡 Midweek Money Matters 💰

Wilmington City Schools earned the Auditor of State Award for the 2024-25 audit period, recognizing the district’s strong financial reporting and clean audit record. Only 13% of all public entities in Ohio received this award! Under Treasurer Kim DeWeese’s leadership, WCS demonstrated high standards for accuracy, accountability, and responsible financial management. These practices help ensure district resources are thoughtfully managed to support our students, staff, and schools.

👏 We’re proud to celebrate this recognition and the commitment to responsible stewardship that helps keep our district strong!

🧡 Investing in Wilmington Students! 🧡

We’re proud to celebrate the continued impact of the Wilmington Schools Foundation and its partnership with Wilmington City Schools! Foundation Director Elizabeth Huber recently presented a check and shared an update on the Foundation’s incredible work.

The Foundation has hit the ground running for the 2026-27 school year, receiving 31 grant applications and awarding $21,000 in grant dollars to support our schools, classrooms, and students! 👏

Last year, the Foundation received 17 grant requests and provided nearly $11,000 in grants. Those funds supported opportunities including:

📚 Field trips for Pre-K through fifth-grade and eighth-grade students to the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center
🔎 Exposure learning opportunities through field trips for MH classrooms
🧪 Mystery Science packs for first grade
🎨 New art displays for the Art Departments

We are incredibly grateful for the Wilmington Schools Foundation committee members and their commitment to creating meaningful opportunities for our students. These grants go directly back into our buildings, classrooms, and student experiences, and we deeply value this partnership and everything it makes possible for the Wilmington community. 🧡🖤

Thank you, Wilmington Schools Foundation, for continuing to invest in our students and their future!
