Post 10 Honor Guard

Post 10 Honor Guard The Post 10 Honor Guard was started in 2003 and in 2005 it was reassigned to the United States Volunteers (USV).

In July 2007 the entire USV team joined American Legion Post 10 and became a Committee of the Post.

Post 10 Honor Guard Commander Gil Dunnagan presented service dedication awards during the February 10th meeting. Recognized were 1st Lt Roy Campbell, 1st Sgt Ken Barlow, Sgt Major Curtis Carlton, Major Mike McCartan, and MSgt Gene Funderburk. MSgt Funderburk also received the Gold Cord Award for rendering military honors at over 500 funerals.

Post 10 Honor Guard Members, Gil Dunnagan, Ken Barlow, and Gene Funderburk rendered military honors at services for the last local area Pearl Harbor survivor, Bud Hollenbeck, a US Navy veteran. Membership in the Honor Guard

To become a member in the Wilmington, NC Honor Guard are you must be a member of American Legion Post 10 and be willing to make the commitment to train for and to serve in the funerals and other events we perform. There are no additional dues involved and a uniform is provided for each member. No prior experience is necessary.

The Wilmington, NC Honor Guard is totally self supported by donations it receives from the families of veterans it serves and from its own fundraising efforts.

To keep the skills of its members at a high level the Honor Guard meets two times each month to practice the procedures used at funerals. The Honor Guard meets the 2nd and last Thursdays at 7 pm at American Legion Post 10.
