HEY SEAHAWKS! Time is running out to apply to the SGA Executive Cabinet, click the link in our bio to learn more. If you still are wondering how rewarding this experience will be, then take a look at why Mannie enjoyed serving on the board! “Being on SGA exec was the most meticulous yet fulfilling experience I ever undertook during my undergraduate experience. As Director of Diversity and Inclusion, I was able to serve as an advocate for diverse students in many facets. Being able to advocate for the needs of our diverse students, and similarly, provide year-round programming, has allowed me to better understand our university and our constituents needs. Despite the setbacks we experienced all year, our exec board always strived to be "fun and productive," just as we'd intended when we commenced last fall. This experience is unmatched and it would be a privilege, as it was it me, to be able to serve the student body in this respect!"
Thank you, Dr. Marilyn Sheerer for your dedication to the position as Provost. You have shown our faculty and staff true leadership and our students the excitement that exist in education. We are wishing you the best in your new teaching position at Watson College of Education!
MEET "FLAT SAMMY"!
Social distancing? Not fun, but necessary. An homage to the beloved children’s character “Flat Stanley” – one that gives us a break from the daily grind AND gives our fellow Seahawks something to enjoy amidst all the serious stuff on their social media feeds? A lot of fun, and, we’ll say it, maybe even necessary!
Introducing…Flat Sammy! Download and print him, color him in, and introduce him into your surroundings! Leaving home, in a responsible (masked, safe) way? Bring Flat Sammy along. Whipping up some survival snacks? Let Flat Sammy join you in the kitchen! Zooming around the world of online education? Flat Sammy would love to sit in. (Just don’t count on him to take good notes…holding a pen with those giant wings isn’t easy.)
Now take and post a picture of how Flat Sammy is keeping you company, include the hashtag , and tag UNCW and UNCW Student Government Association

Nicholas Pianovich, former Student Body President, will tell you the best ideas often come to mind on a long walk around. Just as he is here, walking through campus with Chancellor Sartarelli, dreaming of the next big idea. So how about you take a socially distant walk around your neighborhood and think of the next big idea you have for SGA and UNCW. While you are at it, you should share it with us in the form of an SGA Executive Application. You still have until April 27th at 5 pm to submit your application to be apart of the 2020-2021 Executive Cabinet. Follow the link in our bio to our homepage and click on "Get Involved."

If you are a Seahawk experincing food insecurity during this time, or ever than reach out to Sister Rose at Catholic Campus Minstierites. Drop-in hours can be found at Catholic Campus Ministries website, and donations are also accepted year-round. Together we are One Seahawk, Stronger Together! Good Morning Seahawks! During these times of uncertainty as the nation and the world watches closely to how the Coronavirus situation will develop, we must ensure we as Seahawks are doing our part. SGA urges you to visit the link in our bio to get the most up to date information, continue to wash your hands and practice social distancing techiques. As unsettling as the situation is, take note from the trees that cover our campus, the Long Leaf Pines. Just as the pines stand tall, outstretching their branches towards the sun, you shall also stand tall and confidently in your abilities to traverse this unfamiliar situation. Just as the pines sway back and forth with the wind, you also should remain flexible during the storms of life. Most importantly, though, as the pine trees grow into a forest that covers the land, us Seahawks are a network of life long learners, a family who all have given a piece of themselves to better their lives at UNCW. So take comfort in knowing you do not stand alone during this time, there is a global family of Seahawks here to support you. SGA stands ready to assist you in any way possible, and we are always a simple message away. Together we will overcome this because we are One Seahawk, Stronger Together (with 6 feet of distance). @ UNCW
Please refer to the post below for the latest update.
Seahawks and Seahawk supporters: We have just sent a message via campus email that you can see via the link below, but the gist of it was this: While we are awaiting UNC System guidance re. the impact of Gov. Cooper's Executive Order, students remain able to return to residence halls as of 10 a.m. tomorrow. We have no reason to believe that will change, but we will email students by 7 a.m. tomorrow, just to confirm! *However,* when considering when to return, students should remember that campus services are operating under reduced hours during the extended spring break, and the Rec Center is closed until further notice. Many of you are asking Qs about the impact on various campus services - remember our guidance to check individual campus websites, or carefully reread previous updates. If you do not see a topic addressed within these updates, it means there is not yet any additional information and we can't provide any answers to questions posted/sent here. Thanks for continuing to hang in there with us, Seahawks.

What makes UNCW special?
Amongst all the answers possible, for Bill Kawczynski, Director of Military Affairs at UNCW, that answer is easy. Our Veterans. UNCW is home to thousands of students who have served our nation and now continue to grow at UNCW through their education. Our Military Affairs is one of national recognition, and our univeristy placed 11th on the list of Best Colleges for Veterans in the South. A week ago, Director Kawczynski spoke to ASG at UNCW about his role and the role of ASG in supporting our veterans. Our service members fight a hard battle within their roles of active duty military, and yet some of the hardest battles remain when they return home. As you can imagine, the transition from life on the battlefield to civilian life is not easy for many. 22. That is the number of veterans in the US who die from su***de each day. Director Kawczynski challenged the members of all the universities represented at ASG, to take back to their schools a task. To support their veterans, and to promote an upcoming event that will spark conversation about preventing su***de among our veteran communities. On March 23rd at 6:30 pm in Trask Coliseum, the event "A Conversation on Veteran Su***de Prevention" will take place. This event will not only reach the students here at UNCW, but through a live stream, the event will be broadcast to 1,500 universities across the nation. We hope you join Military Affairs on March 23rd during this conversation, and to continue to support one another. UNCW is family, and together we lift one another so they may reach their goals. @ University of North Carolina at Wilmington
On Tuesday, the UNCW Faculty Senate overwhelmingly voted to support the student body in asking the university to divest from fossil-fuel industries in our endowment, as proposed by the Student Government Association. This resolution follows behind several similar initiatives in academic, private, and public institutions. In the academic realm, universities ranging from Harvard to UNC Asheville have completed similar actions, and now UNCW has joined the ranks. SGA is so proud of the efforts of our 72nd session, with the support of UNCW 350 in the divestment efforts. SGA is committed to ensuring a more sustainable future for generations to come. The full resolution can be found on our website, and we will continue to update the student body about our efforts to achieve a more sustainable campus. @ UNCW
Wellness Wednesday – Occupational
The Occupational dimension of wellness involves preparing and making use of your skills, gifts, and talents in order to gain purpose and happiness in your life. The development of occupational satisfaction is related to your attitude about your work and that is where the UNCW Career Center can help! The mission of the UNCW Career Center is to be a comprehensive career counseling and resource center dedicated to empowering students and alumni as active participants in their own career development. The Career Center offers a multitude of resources to ensure the success of students in their career. Did you know that even after you graduate from UNCW, you can use the services that the career center offers? The career center sponsors a career and internship fair at least once a semester where you can get professional headshots taken and give your resumes to employers.
