Our business community was able to see first-hand the transformative and innovative workforce development programs in our schools, share about their experiences and job readiness with students, discuss open job and co-op opportunities, hear from principals, educators and counselors, and much more.

BSA+A’s very own Maureen Rozanski was Principal for a Day at MOT Charter School. Maureen had the pleasure of assisting Principal, Terry Howarth, throughout the school day. MOT Charter is great tight knit community of students and staff. The team camaraderie and support for one another is present in all aspects of the learning environment. Their vision for and providing of state of the art learning environments is inspiring to see throughout the facility.

Overall, in the words of Maureen, “being principal of the day at MOT Charter was a great experience!”

Jacob and Kayla from The Tutoring Center, Bear visited Principal Jerry Lamey at Caravel Academy. They got to tour the school, sit in on mentoring meetings, and most importantly, assist with lunch duty!

Archmere Academy welcomed two special visitors through the “Principal for a Day” program. Mr. Phillip Vavala, Director of Transmission & Substation Engineering, and Mrs. Kelly DeCurtis, Director of Talent Management, from Delmarva Power/Exelon joined current Archmere Principal, Katie Eissler-Thiel, for a day on campus.

During their visit, Mr. Vavala and Mrs. DeCurtis toured Archmere’s expansive campus, visited math and science classes, met with student leaders from the Auks for the Earth Ecology Club, and led a Lunch & Learn with Student Council. Students were grateful to learn more about Exelon’s goals and objectives, and how Mr. Vavala and Mrs. DeCurtis perceive the ever changing and diverse needs within the energy industry.

As a continuation of our meaningful on-campus conversations, Archmere looks forward to exploring collaborative, educational opportunities with Exelon, specifically related to renewable energy, a subject area that greatly interests current students.

Ryan Harrington from Tech Impact visited Principal Eunique Lawrence at Christiana High School and had the chance to shadow her and learn about what makes CHS special.

Ryan reflected that the true highlight of the day was the students:

"I was able to spend an hour with them sharing about the work that the Delaware Data Innovation Lab and Tech Impact do. We [also] talked about how they could advocate for their own communities and the need for in high tech careers.

It was a bit of a full circle moment for me. I started my career in education as a secondary math teacher at Glasgow High School, which is also in the Christina School District."

Kerri Lacey, Director of Marketing and Public Relations and Kristen Matulewicz, Curator of Community and Academic Programs for Biggs Museum of American Art took on a new role as Guest Principals for the Day at Dover High School .

Led by Principal Dr. Courtney Voshell, the pair got to enjoy a tour of Dover High School’s state of the art facilities and learn about the many pathways students can take, as well as the practical life skills being taught to prepare students for the working world right from high school. In turn, they shared their stories and advice, while identifying continued opportunities for the Museum to engage with these wonderful students.
