Everyone has experienced obstacles created by this pandemic. We have seen through those obstacles an immense amount of flexibility and perseverance in our staff, homeowners, and volunteers. We wanted to take a moment today to highlight some of our organization’s frontline workers.

Our ReStore cashiers, construction crew leaders, and ReStore truck drivers are in the public everyday representing Habitat with customers and volunteers. We are so thankful for their commitment to safety and for helping us achieve our mission of building homes, communities and hope.

A few staff members who have gone above and beyond expectations are Denise, a ReStore keyholder, Tevis, a construction crew leader, and DeWayne, truck driver supervisor. These individuals have handled difficult situations with positivity and professionalism.

Thank you to all of our frontline workers and volunteers for your hard work and dedication, we are so grateful for you all!

We develop close relationships with our partner families during their time in our program! Rita is no different. Thanks to our regular volunteers and groups from St. Andrews-Covenant Presbyterian Church, Rita’s future house is looking more like a home every day.

Those who know Rita know that she is kind to all and passionate about helping those around her. She is excited about this new step in her journey and thanks each person along the way. Rita has been gracious and positive throughout her partnership with Habitat, and we are grateful to know her!

Today and every day, please join us in honoring those who serve our country and communities. We are so thankful for your service!

We have several veterans among the Cape Fear Habitat community among board members, volunteers, staff, and future homeowners who each make our mission possible. As part of our Veterans Initiative, we plan to host our first Veterans Build this spring. With Lowes Home Improvement as our lead sponsor and a roundup during the month of November at our ReStores, we are raising funds for this inaugural build.

For more information about how to support or volunteer in our upcoming Veteran's Build, please contact Jon Bailey at [email protected].

Our HOME Quarters will be closed today in observance of the holiday.

This past Friday, we celebrated our 3rd annual CEO Build with 18 local CEO's and spent the day raising the walls alongside our future homeowner, Tiffany!

Thank you to all of our sponsors for helping us cut costs by funding the building materials for this home, and also for your hard work raising the walls in the rain. It is truly inspiring to see a collaboration of leaders from different industries coming together for one cause, affordable housing. As you empowered Tiffany, you are also empowering others just like her, in making her dream of home ownership a reality!

This past Saturday we celebrated the beginning of construction on Shantel's home with volunteers from Live Oak Bank . Our partnership with Live Oak Bank provides vital funding and volunteers to keep our costs low to provide homeowners like Shantel with an affordable mortgage.

Shantel says, "My daughter is my biggest inspiration and motivation for owning my own home, and she is my accountability partner in making sure all my housing deadlines are met and goals are achieved. I want her to be safe and successful, and homeownership is a step on the path to give her the best life that I can."

The ReStore in Ogden needs a group of 10-15 volunteers to help us unload a shipment this Thursday from 1pm - 5pm! The pallet is too big to enter the store, so we need as many hands as we can get.

On Saturday we celebrated the Wall Raising of Rita's house alongside our sponsor, St. Andrews-Covenant Presbyterian Church.

Rita says, "This is my dream come true and I never thought it was possible!" This sentiment is the reality for many hard-working families in our region, like Rita, who feel homeownership is out of their reach. That is why we are so thankful for partners like St. Andrews-Covenant Presbyterian Church, who help keep our costs down so we can offer an affordable mortgage.

Every gift is an investment because once Habitat homeowners close on their home, their mortgage payments will go right back into building our mission to build homes, community, and hope.

We are thrilled to announce that Vernita closed on her house! She was part of our fast-track program for families who were displaced after Hurricane Florence. She has officially completed our program and is now a happy homeowner! Cheers to Vernita! 🔑🎉

We saw a gaggle of geese getting in the spirit of the Turkey Trot in our new community! Right in front of a home, built with materials funded through our annual race.

It’s not too late to register! Go to https://its-go-time.com/wrightsville-beach-turkey-trot

You can trot with us socially distant in-person or gather your family and trot from your own neighborhood. Either way you are part of burning calories and building homes. 🦃 ❤️

We are thrilled to celebrate as we close on our first home in our 27-home community. Nicole has shown immense strength and resilience as she completed her partnership hours and monthly financial counseling while working full-time in the healthcare industry and raising her two daughters. Despite the delays due to COVID-19 and all of the twists and turns that come with homeownership, today we celebrate the mark of this new journey. It is important to note that our relationship with Nicole does not stop here, and we will continue to stay in touch as she pays her monthly mortgage payments.

A special thank you to the nurses at New Hanover Regional Medical Center for sponsoring the building materials for this home. We also would like to thank the State of North Carolina, New Hanover County, Wells Fargo, and the Hagen family for making this community possible.

Welcome home Nicole ❤️

“It really is an example of the entire community coming together to try and address a problem. It’s often a lot easier to identify the problem then to come up with any solutions. And it is just four houses, but it’s four more than it would have been.”
