On Saturday, September 12, H.E.R. Path is proud to join UNCW College of Health and Human Services, MedNorth Health Center, the NAACP New Hanover County Branch, Church of the Servant, and Colorado State University’s Department of Anthropology and Geography in supporting a Maternal Health Listening Session centered on hearing directly from Black and African-American women about their pregnancy, birth, and postpartum healthcare experiences in New Hanover County.

The stories and experiences shared will help inform efforts to improve maternal healthcare and advance more equitable outcomes in our community.

Supporting opportunities like this Listening Session is part of our year-round commitment to addressing maternal health disparities. That same commitment is at the heart of our Annual Maternal Health Summit, where we bring together community partners such as Novant Health, The Endowment, City of Wilmington, NC Government, and advocates to strengthen collaboration and identify ways we can improve maternal health outcomes together.

On Friday, August 21, our Bright Futures Childcare Center celebrated the new school year with a Back-to-School Drive!

A special thank you to YWCA Lower Cape Fear Board Member Shemeka Henderson Kemp, Store Director at Target, for helping make this possible. Through her support, we received a major donation from Target of backpacks and school supplies, which our Bright Futures children were excited to receive as they prepared for the new school year.

We also thank Coastal Horizons Center for providing safety supplies to families, while our Aquatics Center team shared information about swimming, water safety, and programming available throughout the school year.

It was a great day of community, resources, and plenty of smiles.

On Tuesday, August 18, our Aquatics Center was proud to host Swim With An Olympian, bringing our YWCA Barracudas Swim Team for a special evening with four-time Olympic medalist and world record holder Cullen Jones, Olympic gold medalist Charlie Houchin, and special guests from the Swimmingly team.

From meeting Olympians and hearing their stories to learning new techniques in the pool and even getting the chance to race an Olympian, our swimmers experienced an evening filled with inspiration, excitement, and memories they won’t soon forget.

Back-to-School season is even more special when we celebrate with family.

On Tuesday, August 11, our Grandparent Support Network (GSN) hosted a Back-to-School Drive for the grandparents and families we are honored to serve and consider part of our YWCA LCF family. From school supplies to community connection, the day was all about helping our families feel supported and prepared for the school year ahead.

GSN is growing, and we’d love for you to be part of it! We are seeking community members who are caregivers, as well as volunteers who want to support and uplift grandparents raising grandchildren and other relative caregivers throughout the Lower Cape Fear region.

Progress is underway for future waves!

We’re excited to share a look at the renovation work happening throughout the facility as we create a safer, more welcoming and accessible Aquatics Center for our community.

This $2.3 million renovation includes significant improvements to the pool, deck, locker rooms and other areas of the facility - all designed to strengthen the Aquatics Center for generations to come.

Bright Futures Summer Camp is shining bright this summer!

Recently, our Bright Futures Childcare Director, Olivia Hester, joined Brandon Bigg B Hickman on Coast 97.3 - WMNX Wilmington to share how Bright Futures Childcare Center is helping children learn, grow, and thrive through childcare, afterschool programming, and unforgettable summer camp experiences.

From STEM activities and robotics to arts and crafts, sensory play, outdoor adventures, pool days, field trips, and new friendships, our programs are designed to spark curiosity, build confidence, and create lasting memories for children of all ages.

Whether your child is exploring through our Preschool Summer Camp (ages 6 weeks – 5 years) or embarking on exciting adventures in our Summer Camp (ages 5+), there is something for every young learner to discover this summer.
