This BB-55 Teak Bottle Opener has a handle made from the original Battleship teak deck. The teak has been "stabilized" so that it will last for years and has a great smooth finish. The bottle opener is created by Shady Grady EDC and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.

Combat Information Center (CIC) on the 03 level. When the Battleship was commissioned in April 1941, CIC was part of Main Battery Plotting Room many levels/decks inside the Ship. With the increasing number of air and surface search radars providing timely locations of enemy and friendly aircraft and ships, CIC needed a larger space to hold all the fast-changing equipment. They renovated Bridge Radio on the 03 level while in Bremerton, WA, August 1944.
Using new radars, sound powered telephones and radios, CIC became a central information clearing house for the Battleship’s Command to make quick decisions during engagements.

The NC Dept. of Natural and Cultural Resources continues to celebrate 50 years of preserving North Carolina’s treasures! The USS NORTH CAROLINA Battleship was decommissioned in 1947 after her participation in every major operation in the Pacific theater in World War II and after earning 15 battle stars. Now permanently moored in Wilmington on the Cape Fear River, the battleship is a memorial, historic site, and floating museum. It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1986. The U.S.S. North Carolina is one of 27 North Carolina Historic Sites within the N.C. Department of Natural and Cultural Resources. #DNCR50 #WeDoThatToo

The restoration of the Marine Officers Stateroom is dedicated to the memory of Captain Todd M. Siebert USMC, who was killed in action in Iraq on 16 February 2007. Captain Siebert played a vital role in the restoration of the quarters as a member of the United States Marine Corps Historical Company.

A recent donation is a letter from Phineas Beach, U.S.S. North Carolina, New York Navy Yard, March 2, 1863.
"Dear Sir: I am to receive money on the 15th inst and shall then send you the $30 which I promised to do monthly hereafter. Resp Yours, Phineas Beach.

So the Battleship has a new look: She's gone a bit shorter on top!
The top of the foremast has been successfully removed for repairs, so the Battleship's silhouette is a little smaller than usual. As soon as they're ready, the missing sections of the mast will be returned and her old shape will be back!

Eighty years ago today...

Isaw that being fixed
Veterans Disability Attorney Andrea Smaxwell competed in her first 10k race, an event benefiting the historic USS NORTH CAROLINA Battleship.
Andrea was one of nearly 2,000 runners who competed in the The Parkway Subaru Battleship NC Half Marathon, 10k, and 5k, held Nov. 14 in downtown Wilmington. It was her first official race, and Andrea finished in 20th place out of 244 women competing and in 9th place among women runners in her age group. She also set a personal best record, shaving 8 minutes off her fastest time, finishing in just under 52 minutes.
“I couldn’t think of a better way to spend the Sunday morning after Veterans Day than to show support and thanks to our service men and women, past and present, their families, and the community as a whole,” she said. “I am honored to be able to represent our veteran clients at DLG. They have sacrificed so much to protect our freedom.”
Because of its affiliation with the Battleship memorial, a lot of military personnel and veterans participated in this particular race.
“Without a doubt, the best part of the course was the people,” Andrea said. “There were veterans who were running with their service animals, and I can still hear the sound of the dog tags clanking. There were volunteers assisting disabled veterans to get through the course in jogging strollers. Their excitement and enthusiasm was infectious.”
Andrea plans to compete in another race this weekend – the Wilmington Roadrunner’s Seaside Shuffle 5k at Wrightsville Beach. Andrea went to college at UNC-Wilmington and travels there often to visit her family.
This weekend’s 5K benefits the Wilmington Roadrunners Scholarship Fund that awards college scholarships to high school seniors from the local area, including Brunswick and New Hanover counties.
Next weekend is the 2021 Parkway Subaru Battleship Half Marathon 10K and 5K Downtown Wilmington, NC produced by Without Limits and Go Time. We are very excited for 2000 runners to take on the Wilmington Streets and the USS NORTH CAROLINA Battleship.

EVENT: Save A Vet Now is a local non-profit that helps to raise awareness and prevent su***de among Veterans.
Saturday November 6 from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. local Veterans and artists will put their works of art up for auction. The event takes place on the USS NORTH CAROLINA Battleship.
Please join Coastal Horizons Center and Save A Vet Now tomorrow, Saturday, November 6 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the USS NORTH CAROLINA Battleship for an early Veterans Day Celebration. We visited Battleship North Carolina in Wilmington with our two little grandsons. They loved the experience.
