You can stay active and stay safe from COVID-19. If playing sports, avoid physical contact and limit participants or spectators. Bring your own gear, water & towels. And keep that mask on! Crowded areas, even if outdoors, can still contribute to the spread of COVID-19.

Celebrate Thanksgiving safely with a small, socially-distanced outdoor meal with loved ones. Limit the number of shared items or people handling utensils & dishes - designate one “server” to reduce touchpoints. Consider disposable items and have masks & hand sanitizer for guests.

If having repairs done in your home, take care of as many of the job details as you can over the phone or via email before service work begins. You and the service provider should wear masks at all times when indoors or in close contact, and encourage use of disposable gloves.

How big is your bubble?

Your "bubble" is made up of the people you live with or come into close contact with on a regular basis. This can be coworkers, family, friends, or neighbors. But remember that every person you interact with has a bubble of their own, and every action you take can impact those other bubbles. Keep every bubble safe from the spread of COVID-19. Wear a mask, wait 6 feet apart, wash your hands, and stay #SafeHealthySecure.

Small precautions you take when out in public can make big impacts on the spread of COVID-19. Carry a pen & other personal items, and don’t use items that can’t be sanitized after use. Take the stairs, unless you can ride the elevator alone or with members of your household.

As of 11/18, there have been 6,486 total COVID-19 cases in New Hanover County, with 873 of those presumed active and 49 deaths. It's important to keep up the 3 Ws to prevent spread, especially with the colder weather pushing us indoors and flu season complications.

New local cases of COVID-19 continue to tick upward, following the trend of increased cases statewide. Now is the time to ramp up those protective measures to keep our numbers under control, as daily and holiday activity will make a huge impact in the coming weeks.

The majority of cases remain in the 18-24 and 25-49 age range, as they are more likely to be active in the community. Before engaging in any social gatherings or travel, get tested for COVID-19. Know before you go. Help slow the spread this season and keep everyone safe.

Free community testing resources are available throughout the county for those with and without COVID-19 symptoms. Find a testing site near you at Health.NHCgov.com/Coronavirus under the "Screening & Testing" tab.

As cases of COVID-19 continue to rise, take precautions this Thanksgiving to keep your loved ones safe. Consider a virtual Thanksgiving with loved ones. Travel, especially long-distance, increases the risk of COVID-19 exposure. Get creative with your family traditions! Swap recipes ahead of time and make them together from a distance or take a virtual family photo with festive decorations.
