Cooperative Extension - New Hanover County Center and Arboretum Ability Garden was awarded $20,000 from the U.S. Botanic Garden (USBG) and American Public Gardens Association (APGA) to help with the creation of residential pocket gardens in the Creekwood community, that will increase education and capacity in urban food growing. At Tuesday's #NHCgov Board of Commissioners meeting, county staff was recognized with ten National Association of Counties 2021 Achievement Awards for innovation in a variety of programs and services to our community, including one Best in Category award.

Each program highlighted was a collaborative effort between multiple county departments, and achieved success even with the challenges staff faced throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Congratulations to all involved in these important programs, and thank you for all your hard work in service to our community!

New Hanover County partnered with the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce to provide grants to businesses hit hardest by the COVID-19 pandemic - retail, service, leisure and hospitality, and childcare.

ℹ️ Learn about eligibility, how the funds can be utilized, and how to apply at WilmingtonChamber.org

Businesses located in New Hanover County in the Hospitality, Restaurant, Tourism, Retail, Child Care, or Service sectors that were impacted by COVID-19 and the subsequent restrictions on business should consider applying for the $4.5 million grant we're managing on behalf of New Hanover County and the City of Wilmington. Applications will be accepted beginning on July 1 through the end of the day on July 15, 2021.

Today, the county, city & Novant Health announced the two possible locations for the Michael Jordan Family Clinics that will serve the uninsured and under-insured in our community. The Board of Commissioners will consider the donation of county-owned property at 15th and Greenfield streets for a clinic on July 13.
