Happy Pride Month from Preservation of Wilson! ๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€๐ŸŒˆ

This Pride Month, we celebrate the contributions, resilience, and history of LGBTQ+ individuals whose lives and experiences are an important part of our shared heritage. Every story deserves to be remembered, valued, and preserved.

We are grateful for the diversity that strengthens our community and helps make Wilson a more vibrant and welcoming place for all.

And thank you Queens for making our AfterFlowers truly historic! ๐Ÿ’ƒโค๏ธโ€๐Ÿ”ฅ

We'd like to thank everyone who helped with our 2026 Garden Party on Sunday, especially our sponsors and everyone who came. We think it was a return to form for our annual event, but judge for yourself in the smiles in these pictures.

We did hear a couple of questions about an indoor garden party. Truthfully we did plan a traditional party, but we lost our location earlier this year and we decide to use Wilson Arts. We owe a great deal of thanks to our board vice president, John Kirk of The Kirkโ€™s Flowers, LLC, for doing his magic to bring the outdoors inside; we think he did a fantastic job.

We are actively searching for a good garden location for 2027. If you would like to volunteer your property, we will bring the party and clean up afterwards. Reach out to John or board president Tracey Briscoe Barnes.

Do you have other ideas you'd like us to consider? Best way is to join us! We are staffing committees now and planning other educational and fun events later this year. Members get the first word on all events. There are links to join on our page and website.

Again, thanks to everyone who attended! It's the start of an exciting year for our group, and we do want people to consider starting or renewing memberships.

Here's a special memory from our 2026 Garden Party -- the Carrons Funeral Home chorus serenading our guests as they left Sunday afternoon. Thank you so much to Carrons for their sponsorship of our event and this very special sendoff!

We're excited to share that Bankston Lewis was recognized as our 2026 Preservationist of the Year at our annual Garden Party this past Sunday! Bankston is the owner of MidSouth Roofing & Construction, LLC and has worked on many historical structures within Wilson County and Beyond. Most notably, in Wilson, he and his team restored the G.K. Butterfield Train Station awning structure, helping to restore it to it's former glory and ensure the welcoming of visitors for many years to come! Congratulations again to Bankston Lewis, 2026 Preservationist of the Year! Downtown Wilson NC Wilson
