Today, we wear purple to raise awareness 💜

In recognition of International Overdose Awareness Day, several of our staff wore their End Overdose shirts, and those who were available gathered for a group photo. The empty chair represents someone who was loved and is deeply missed because of overdose.

Today is a time to remember the lives lost, support those who are grieving, end the stigma surrounding substance use, and celebrate those in recovery. Every empty chair seen today across Wilson County represents someone who mattered and will never be forgotten.

An outbreak of cyclosporiasis is currently affecting several states, with cases typically increasing during the summer months. Since May 1, 2026, more than 300 cases have been reported in North Carolina, including one recently confirmed case in Wilson County.

Cyclosporiasis is an intestinal illness linked to contaminated food or water. We want our community to be aware of the symptoms and ways to lower the risk of illness.

Take a look at the graphic below for symptoms, prevention tips, and when to contact a health care provider. Please contact your health care provider if you have severe or lasting diarrhea.

Looking for a convenient place to get tested? The Health Department's Mobile Care Unit offers testing for HIV, hepatitis C, syphilis, and chlamydia at locations throughout the community.

The Mobile Care Unit is out most weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., making it easier to get tested at locations outside of the Health Department.

Wednesday: Jiffy Mart
Thursday: Pender St. Site
Friday: Pender St. Site

You don't have to wait until something feels wrong to get tested. You can feel completely healthy and still have an infection. Many infections don't cause symptoms right away, but they can still affect your health and be passed to others. Getting tested is the only way to know for sure, and if you have an infection, it can help you get the care you need.

🌡️ Need a Break from the Heat? 🌡️

With dangerously hot temperatures expected this holiday weekend, the Wilson White Flag Committee is opening a Cooling Station to provide a safe, air-conditioned place for anyone who needs relief from the heat.

🗓️ Friday, July 3 – Sunday, July 5
🕐 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. each day

Visitors are welcome to cool off, enjoy air conditioning, drink water, and take a break from the heat.

Please help us spread the word by sharing this post with friends, family, neighbors, and anyone who may not have access to reliable air conditioning, especially older adults, young children, and those with chronic health conditions.

If someone is experiencing signs of heat stroke, including confusion, loss of consciousness, or a high body temperature, call 911 immediately.

We enjoyed attending Golden Jubilee Day today, organized through the Wilson County Senior Activity Center and Wilson County Department of Social Services

It was a great turnout, and we were glad to spend time with so many older adults, community partners, and familiar faces. We also appreciated the opportunity to take photos with two of our Board of Health members who were in attendance.
