**Update**

The tree has been removed from the roadway however there is still a small amount of debris. The roadway is back open. We ask that drivers continue to use caution when traveling through the area.

**Traffic Alert**

Officers of the Wilson Police Department are asking citizens to avoid the area of Raleigh Road Parkway between Wolf Trap Drive and Heritage drive due to a tree falling in the roadway. At this time, the westbound lane is partially closed. City personnel are working on getting the tree removed from the roadway. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Labor Day is Monday, Sept. 7. Here's what to expect from City of Wilson services next week.

Environmental Services:

Monday routes → Tuesday
Tuesday routes → Wednesday
Thursday and Friday routes → On schedule
No special junk pickups next week for appliances, bulky items and other large items.

Customer Service:
The customer service office on Nash Street will be closed Monday. Other options to pay bills are:
- Doing so online at WilsonNC.org;
- Using the automated system at 399-2200; or
- Using the kiosk in the first drive-thru lane to provide a contactless payment option that takes cash, check and card payments 24 hours a day. Payments through the kiosk apply to City of Wilson utility and Greenlight customer accounts instantly.

Parks: All city parks will be open.

Wilson RIDE: The city’s transit system will operate on Monday. Use the Via app to schedule rides.

All emergency services will operate on normal schedules. Utilities will be staffed and ready to respond to outages or other situations; call 399-2424.

Yesterday our city employees kicked off our 2026 United Way of Wilson County workplace campaign with a little Olympic-style competition.

For 55 years, City employees have come together to support United Way, and this year’s kickoff was a wonderful reminder of what makes that tradition special: our employees.

A big thank-you to everyone who competed, volunteered, helped behind the scenes or simply showed up to enjoy the day. We’re proud to continue this longtime partnership and look forward to another great campaign year.

These meetings are typically informal work sessions and do not have a prepared agenda.

For this month’s Get Outside More resolution, we’re highlighting two easy ways to enjoy a little time outdoors in Wilson:

You don’t need a big trip or a packed schedule to make time outside. Pick a day, grab a friend or family member, and try something different.

Update: roads affected are back open.

City of Wilson crews are responding to a water main break under Tarboro Street at Green Street. It is affecting water service to nearby properties and we have had to close Tarboro Street between Nash and Green streets. Please give our crews time and space and we hope to have everything restored quickly.

The final home stand of the Wilson Warbirds inaugural season starts today at 4 p.m. The Warbirds will play a double-header starting at 4 p.m. (gates open at 3:45 p.m.) to finish out a rain-delayed game. The scheduled game begins tonight at 7:05 p.m.

The Warbirds face the Hickory Crawdads with post-game fireworks on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. Shortly before the fireworks start the playground and Whirligig Park will be closed for safety.

FREE Parking - There's more than 1,700 free parking spaces in city-owned lots with nearly 500 free on-street spaces. Shuttles will be running before and after the games.
