Our goat exhibitors had the honor of wrapping up the Iowa State Fair for Wilton FFA, competing in both market goat and commercial doe under one year classes.

While the two divisions have different purposes, both require students to understand what makes a quality animal. In the market goat division, exhibitors focus on producing animals that will excel as meat-producing livestock. In the commercial doe division, students evaluate and exhibit young breeding females with the qualities needed to become productive members of a future herd.

What a way to close out an incredible Iowa State Fair! We are so proud of all of our goat exhibitors and the hard work, dedication, and time they put into preparing for this moment.

Two Wilton FFA members sell at the Iowa State Fair Sale of Champions tomorrow — Oliver Grings with Bone, Reserve Grand Champion Market Hog, and Caden Meyer with Ciggy, Grand Champion Market Goat.

Champion exhibitors raise local support to take part, and there's still time to be counted. Donations go through the IFAA, a 501(c)(3), and fund Iowa youth and scholarships.

Caden Meyer and his wether, Ciggy, were named Grand Champion Market Goat at the Iowa State Fair. This means he earned the top market goat on the grounds, and a spot in the 2026 Sale of Champions.

Caden bested a field of 115 market goats to take the banner. Twelve years of showing goats built to this. Caden is a 2024 graduate of Durant Community School District, 2023-2024 Wilton FFA Vice President, and still an active chapter member. He’s passionate about the goat industry on both the market and the breeding side and it shows in the barn every single day.

Now as he makes his debut at the Sale of Champions he needs his community!

Champion exhibitors raise local support in order to participate in the sale. This is where our community gets to be part of it. Contributions support hardworking Iowa youth and fund scholarships for Iowa students. The Iowa Foundation for Agricultural Advancement is a 501(c)(3), so donations are eligible for tax benefits.
Any amount helps. Businesses, families, neighbors. It all adds up, and it all stays in Iowa.

Cattle production take many different forms and our students had the opportunity to showcase their knowledge in ALL THREE!

Performance Beef: Raising steers to market weight requires careful management from start to finish. Our exhibitors were challenged to appropriately feed and manage their animals while balancing rate of gain, structural soundness and the ideal meat quality window

Breeding Beef: This requires looking beyond the animal standing in front of you and thinking about the next generation. Our exhibitors work to raise and exhibit high-quality animals with desireable traits that can be passed on to future generations.

Dairy Cattle: This brings a different set of priorities. Exhibitors must evaluate and manage not only the physical aspects, such as structure and funtion, but also the strength of the animal's mamary system. These animals are production animals at their core. Students are expected to manage this aspect while exhibiting high quality animals.

Producing a successful market hog is about much more than putting pounds on an animal. Our purebred exhibitors produced animals that showcased the strengths and characteristics of their individual breeds. While crossbred exhibitors worked with the combined genetics of their animal to create an ideal market hog.

The success of this group is a reflection of the countless hours spent selecting, feeding and preparing these animals for the Iowa State Fair. We are incredibly proud of their accomplishments in the show ring.

Raising quality breeding stock is no easy task. Our students took on this challenge from both sides of the breeding swine industry. Some selected and raised crossbred animals that combine the strengths of multiple breeds. Others took on the challenge of representing individual breeds that highlight their unique value to the swine industry. Both have value and are essential to the future of the swine industry.

In addition our chapter earned the "Supreme Breeding Swine Chapter". This honor is earned through a collective performace of our students throughout the breed show. It is a great reflection of the work they put in to developing quality breeding stock.

Behind every successful show ring moment is countless hours of early mornings, late nights, practice and dedication.

This week is especially meaningful for Savanna. She poured so much time and heart into these two animals while navigating the loss of another horse. Through grief she continued to show up, put in the work and prepare for the fair. The results are something to be proud of, but even more impressive is the perservance to get there.

Congratulations on you Champion Western Type Halter Horse and all of the success you acheived this week.

What a great week for our Wilton FFA sheep exhibitors, two of which competed at the state fair for the first time. We are proud of their work ethic, sportsmanship and effort last week. Way to go ladies!

Oliver Grings and his hog, Bone, bested a field of more than 400 hogs to earn Reserve Grand Champion Market Hog at the Iowa State Fair! Earning Oliver a spot in the 2026 Sale of Champions.

Only 16 exhibitors in the entire state make this sale. Oliver has been working toward it for nine years, in the barn before school and after practice, all while playing varsity football, basketball and golf at Wilton Jr./Sr. High School.

Now he needs his hometown!
