UPDATE 1:00 PM- Roadway is now open.

Extended road closures are expected in the area of Danbury Road and School Street in Georgetown while emergency crews remain on scene.

Please avoid the area, seek alternate routes, and allow emergency personnel room to work safely.

Today, Wilton was proud to welcome riders participating in the CT United Ride as they traveled through our community in remembrance of the lives lost on September 11, 2001.

A powerful sight as hundreds of motorcycles passed beneath the American flag, honoring the victims, first responders, and all those whose lives were forever changed that day.

Thank you to the Wilton Firefighters - Local 2233 (Wilton, CT) and Wilton CT Fire Department who came out to show their support along the route as well as all the other spectators.

United in remembrance. United in gratitude. Never forgotten 🇺🇸

Back to School Safety Week: Day 5

We’ve spent all week talking safety, so we figured we’d wrap things up by introducing two familiar faces helping keep our schools safe every day.

SRO Ackerman joined the Wilton Police Department in 2014 and has spent more than seven years as a School Resource Officer. At this point, she probably knows the hallways, bell schedule, and school rules better than most of the students.

SRO Whitman joined the Wilton Police Department as a dispatcher in 2016 before becoming a police officer in 2019. This year marks his first as a School Resource Officer, so help us welcome him to the district. Go easy on him, he’s the new kid this year too.

Our SROs are there to keep our schools safe, build relationships, answer questions, and be a familiar face students can turn to.

As we head into another school year, remember that keeping our schools safe is a team effort. If you see something, say something.

To all of our students, families, teachers, and staff, we wish you a happy, healthy, and safe school year!

This Sunday, August 30th, the CT United Ride will travel through Wilton as more than 1,000 motorcycles come together to honor our first responders and those lost on September 11th.

Motorists should expect temporary road closures and significant traffic delays from approximately 11:45 AM–12:30 PM.

The ride will enter Wilton on Westport Road (Route 33) at the Westport town line, continue toward Danbury Road (Route 7), and then proceed northbound on Route 7 toward Ridgefield.

During the procession, northbound traffic will be closed as the motorcycles travel through town. Wilton Police and Wilton CERT members will be assisting with intersection closures and traffic control.

Traveling during this time? Please plan ahead and consider avoiding Danbury Road (Route 7) between Westport Road (Route 33) and Route 107 in Georgetown.

We appreciate everyone’s patience while the ride passes through Wilton and encourage the community to come out, wave a flag, and show their support.

Back-to-School Safety Fact #4: The crosswalk is NOT a game of Frogger.

School is back, which means students, parents, buses, and pedestrians are everywhere again.

Drivers: Slow down, stay alert, and yield when required. That extra 10 seconds probably isn’t going to ruin your day.

Pedestrians: Use the crosswalk, stay visible, and make sure drivers actually see you. Eye contact > assumptions.

And remember: Pedestrian safety is a two-way street even when the street itself is only one way…

See. Be seen. Stay safe.

Back-to-School Safety Fact #3: Your phone has a lot of smart features. Knowing when to put itself down isn’t one of them.

A text, notification, or phone call can wait. With students, buses, and pedestrians back on the roads, your full attention needs to be behind the wheel.

Put the phone down. Keep your eyes up. Get where you’re going safely.

And if you’re wondering whether we can tell you’re on your phone while driving…

Yes. Yes we can.

Back-to-School Safety Fact #2: Running late doesn’t make the school zone speed limit any higher.

When those yellow lights are flashing, slow down and pay attention. Students are heading back to class, and a few extra seconds can make all the difference.

Oh, and one more thing… fines are doubled in school zones.

We’ll see you before you see us.
