2026 CONNECTICUT UNITED RIDE – Sunday AUGUST 30th The CT United Ride, supporting first responders and their families from 9/11, will be traveling through Wilton. Sponsored by the Uniformed Professional Firefighters of CT, the riders will begin on Westport Rd (Rt. 33) at the Westport Town Line and will continue toward Danbury Rd (Rt. 7). Once the riders reach Danbury Rd (Rt. 7), all northbound traffic will be closed as the motorcycle procession, led by the CT State Police makes its way to Georgetown. We expect the closure to last approximately forty-five (45) minutes. (11:45 am - 12:30pm). Wilton CERT and will be on hand to assist with closing intersections.We are expecting 1000 motorcycles or more! All are welcome to come out to watch and support.

Update on the weather conditions this AM in Wilton .

A Flood Watch remains effect for Long Island and southern Connecticut until 2 PM this afternoon.

• Isolated to scattered instances of flash flooding remain possible for portions of the area this morning as a band of heavy rain moves through. Smaller streams and river could briefly exceed their banks. Additional rainfall of 1-2 inches, with locally higher amounts, is expected in the Watch area. Downpours through this morning and will result in continued poor drainage / roadway concerns (perhaps even localized significant issues).

Remember, with a Flood Watch (as opposed to a Warning) flooding is possible. Advised to tune in to commercial radio, television for information. Another option is https://www.weather.gov/nwr (NOAA radio) for information direct from the National Weather Service. https://www.facebook.com/NWS/

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be
possible.

* WHERE...A portion of southern Connecticut, including the following areas, Northern Fairfield, Northern New Haven, Southern Fairfield and Southern New Haven.

* WHEN...From 2 PM EDT this afternoon through Wednesday evening.

* IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers,
creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- A slow-moving low-pressure system will bring multiple rounds
of heavy showers and thunderstorms to the area today through
Wednesday. Average rainfall amounts are expected to be
between 3 and 5 inches with localized higher amounts. Peak
hourly rainfall rates could be as high as 2 to 3 inches in
the heaviest showers and thunderstorms.

According to the National Weather Service, tornadoes are possible in and near the area.

This is the time when the household should review and discuss emergency plans, take inventory of supplies, and check your safe room.

When a tornado watch is issued in your area, be ready to act quickly if a warning is issued.

The National Weather Service's Storm Prediction Center typically issues the tornado watch for counties where tornadoes may occur. The watch zone is typically large, sometimes covering several counties and/or even states.

Per AirNow (http://www.airnow.gov), which is where the State directs communities to go for reliable air quality information, we are forecasted for an "Orange" day. (yesterday we were Red and predicted to go to Purple, which Wilton did), The forecast is the AQI is to go down over the day.

Orange AQI: 101-150 is unhealthy for sensitive groups
Once the AQI reaches orange, sensitive groups need to be more cautious. (children, older adults and people with asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or other heart and lung conditions). Pregnant people and people with certain chronic health conditions can also be more vulnerable.

At this level, pollution can irritate the airways and make them more reactive.

What to do: Sensitive groups should shorten outdoor activities or move them indoors.

Outdoor Town of Wilton activities to be closed beginning at 12:00 p.m. today July 16, 2026

Air quality for July 16,2026 is listed to reach "Unhealthy" due to Canadian wildfires

Due to unhealthy air quality caused by smoke from Canadian wildfires, the Town of Wilton Director of Health Barrington A. Bogle hereby orders all outdoor Town of Wilton activities to be closed beginning at 12:00 p.m. today.

According to CT Department of Public Health (DPH) and the Wilton Health Department the air quality for July 16,2026 is listed to reach "Unhealthy" and potentially "Very Unhealthy" (see chart below)
due to Canadian wildfires. The weather service said concentrations of smoke near the ground should peak late Thursday and during the evening. By Friday morning, winds shifting out of the north should push the higher concentrations of smoke to the south.
CT DPH recommends using AirNow (https://www.airnow.gov), to see the current and forecasted air quality in your area.

Those with underlying medical conditions, children, and the elderly are considered sensitive
populations and are most at risk for experiencing symptoms from elevated air pollution that is
expected today and should remain indoors.

CT DPH recommends that people with asthma, and heart and lung conditions avoid outdoor exercise today. Asthma symptoms may flare up as well.

We recommend that you avoid any outdoor exercise today if you have lung or heart conditions and
seek medical attention if these symptoms worsen. Even healthy adults who spend prolonged periods outdoors working or exercising should minimize
their outdoor exertion because poor air quality can impact even those not considered vulnerable.DPH recommends that those with underlying medical conditions should be sure to have their
medications readily available and seek medical attention if these issued worsen.

As a reminder, wearing a KN95 or N95 is effective at filtering smoke. If you have some at home,
consider wearing them while outdoors until the air quality improves.

The big story continues to be the Canadian wildfire smoke as another wave of it arrives today. Air quality will be "OK" for the next few hours, but it will deteriorate again later this morning and become rather poor for the afternoon. In fact, the AQI will likely peak above 200 and that correlates to very unhealthy air.

When above 200, Sensitive Groups should avoid all physical activity outdoors, reschedule to a time when air quality is better or move activities indoors. For everyone else, avoid long and intense outdoor activities, and consider moving indoors.
