Rotarian Stanley hosted a memorable Rotary Social on June 9 at The Studio, Trademill 44 in Wimberley. We were especially glad to reconnect with Tiffany and Andrew, and to meet Studio owner Kristen McDermott and Jubilee, who could not have been more gracious. Brent found a vintage book of Texas slang that he read aloud and entertained us. Stanley added lovely guitar selections.

Tuesday, May 12, the Rotary Club of Wimberley will hear from Julie Teague of Amigos de Jesus, a former teacher who is helping our Spanish-speaking families navigate the educational systems of our area. We first met Mrs. Teague when we heard from our five RYLA students this year, as all were members of the Wimberley High School group overseen by Amigos. The meeting is at noon at the Wimberley Village Library. Please join us!

The Rotary Club of Wimberley was privileged to hear from Marla Johnson, retired Executive Director of the Hays-Caldwell Women’s Center (HCWC). The HCWC officially began in 1978 in Hays County and expanded to include Caldwell County. During that period of time, Marla was an integral part of the organization for almost 30 years before she retired. The Center focuses on crisis intervention, violence prevention, and community education along with serving the needs of the victims of abuse. APRIL is “Sexual Assault Awareness and Child Abuse Awareness & Prevention” month. The Rotarians discussed ways that they can support the HCWC in the future.

In addition, Wimberley Rotarian Stanley Seidlitz showed the group the covered brochure holder he purchased for installation at Nadine’s Book Nook. Visitors to the Nook will have access to materials that explain the missions of Rotary.
