We were called to a single vehicle accident. As emergency crews arrived on scene, one patient was able to exit the vehicle. The second patient located in the front passenger seat was unable to self extricate due to possible leg injuries. While the patient maintained his high spirits and jokes, he realized he wasn't able to get out on his own. With that determination and the extent of the damage to the vehicle, we decided we needed room to begin our work on getting him out. Removed the driver rear door, cut 5 of the 6 pillars for the roof and pinched the passenger B pillar to act as our hinge. Rolled the roof and assisted the patient on to a back board and out of the vehicle.

⚠️ With nearly one-third of carbon monoxide alarm calls in Indiana resulting in a confirmed CO detection, it’s really important to take precautions.

Protect your home with a few simple steps:

🔴Have a CO detector on every level of your home (including the basement).

🔴Test detectors monthly to make sure they’re working properly.

🔴Check the expiration date. CO detectors do expire. Refer to the manual, and many models list a manufacture date or replace-by info right on the device.

Carbon monoxide is dangerous because you can't see it or smell it, and it can make you seriously ill or worse without warning.

If your CO detector goes off, leave the home immediately and call 911. We have sensitive equipment that can detect CO and other harmful gases.

This is a preventable tragedy with a little prep work. We would much rather get called out for an expired detector than respond to a life-threatening emergency. Stay safe and stay aware.

EXTREME COLD WARNING - WINTER SAFETY REMINDER: CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING

Carbon monoxide is often called the silent killer because it is colorless, odorless, and extremely dangerous. During winter weather, the risk increases as homes are sealed and alternative heat sources are used.

Please keep these important safety tips in mind:
• Never use ovens or stovetops to heat your home
• Do not use charcoal grills indoors or in garages
• Keep generators outside only, at least 25 feet from doors and windows
• Never run vehicles in garages—even with the garage door open
• Make sure chimneys and vents are clear
• Install carbon monoxide detectors on every level of your home

Know the signs of carbon monoxide poisoning:
Headache
Fatigue
Confusion
Nausea
Vomiting
Weakness
Shortness of breath

If you suspect you or someone you know may be suffering from CO poisoning, call 911 immediately.
