Wi******er VFW Memorial Day Schedule of Events.
Hello everyone,
Remember Memorial Day is THIS Monday, the 25th.
Here is the schedule as I have it planned.
Monday morning 07:00 we will transit to Fitzwilliam Inn to muster behind the Inn like we always do. I expect some other members to meet us there at 07:30 or 07:45. Wear your VFW covers and uniforms if you wish to represent your branch, otherwise, white shirt/black pants.
Their parade steps off at 08:00.
We march around the Common and fall in as usual. They say some words, we fire the guns, then on to the next event down the road. I am not sure in which order we will do it but there are 3 events after the one on the Common; Fitzwilliam Depot memorial, Rhododendron Cemetery, Pine Grove cemetery.
After their 4 events we go back to the Wi******er Post to re-group.
Everyone else meet in Wi******er 09:30 or 09:45.
NO LATER THAN 10:00AM!
We will provide the Color Guard, Rifle Detail, Wreathes, and bugler. I would like to make a good impression so the more members we have in formation the better, so tell everyone, and their brothers to show up!
Our parade begins at 10:30.
We will be provided transportation from the Post to the Wi******er Memorial in the center of town along with the main body of the parade group.
We will fall in as usual, by the flags, and the main Memorial.
We say some words, place the wreathes, shoot the guns, "blow" taps and get back on the bus.
We will then transit to the Evergreen Cemetery on the bus. The rest of the community will walk with us up Parker street.
Once we arrive at the Cemetery, we fall in and wait for everyone else to get in order. We say our closing prayers, place one last wreathe, and shoot the guns one last time. After taps we will fall out. We get BACK on the bus and transit back to the VFW Post.
We will have a moment to catch our breath before the BBQ starts out back at the Pavillion.
The Auxiliary will be cooking by then. The bar out back will open at noon. Cash only- no free drinks this time, sorry.
We will request a 5 dollar per person donation at the gate for hamburgs/hotdogs/etc and distribute poppies at that time. If a member of the community, or family, doesn't have 5 dollars- we won't turn them away. (but please be mindful of helping out the effort)
Everyone eats and drinks, tells "Sea Stories" and we call it a day. The bar closes about 6:00PM (depending on the crowd and the staff)
This is the schedule as I expect it to happen. Of course, there are a lot of people involved so we will remain flexible with regards to ex*****on.
