SW Corner NH

SW Corner NH Various ventures designed to raise money to provide housing opportunities for people with special needs. A few things can happen. More on this below.

Our first fundraising project is to sell donated books from individual and institutional libraries. Books are precious things, but comes the sad day when you realize you won't be able to take your cherished friends with you when you leave the Earth (not like astronauts...silly). If the thought that your book collections will end up in a landfill makes you ill, consider contacting SW Corner NH. You

can donate the books out right, take the tax deduction, and we come and get them (within 100 miles of our corner of the state). We will sell the books and the profits with go towards a social project we're starting. You can pay a research fee and we'll find a library or institution that would love to take your donation. You ship the books directly to their new home (we'll help with the logistics). You consign the books and we sell them. The percentages haven't been worked out completely yet, but we would split the seller's fees from whatever selling platform is used and the cost of coming to get them. Right now, the option that isn't available (because, um, no money) is to buy your books for a couple of dollars a piece (basically, yard sale prices). Hopefully, someday we can do this. So, what is this money going to? People with special needs are living longer, but not their parents (with whom these folks live, more often than not). A lot of them have lives, jobs, established supports, but can languish on residential waiting lists when the need comes for new homes. We are raising money to establish future housing opportunities for these folks. SW Corner NH is the trade name of an LLC registered in good standing with the state of New Hampshire. More with be posted about all of this in the days and weeks to come!

There’s a reason that some people won’t let go of their physical books — and a new term for it: ‘book-wrapt.’

Myriam Gaudet gives a new lease on life to books that aren't flying off the shelves at local thrift stores, but her success in amassing a wealth of literature has posed a problem: how to store all these books until the right buyer comes along?

I don't work with severely physically disabled people like this person, but I agree wholeheartedly with her concern about "what happens next."

You know one of my wildest dreams besides making housing for special needs people? Grow the book sales enough that I can employ those people.

No, the South Bronx people will never hold jobs, but everyone deserves a quality of life that affords expansion of that life. Everyone deserves new horizons. The people I know deserve the choice to have employment, if they want it.

"Fiction gives us empathy: it puts us inside the minds of other people, gives us the gifts of seeing the world through their eyes. Fiction is a lie that tells us true things, over and over."
