This week we hold in our hearts those involved in the recent tragedy in Colorado, and honor all those who have fallen in the line of duty. The Week of Remembrance bridges two of the most devastating tragedies in wildland firefighting history, the firefighter entrapments on the Yarnell Fire on June 30, 2013 and the South Canyon Fire on July 6, 1994.

Ticks can be as small as a poppy seed. There are five ticks in this photo. Can you spot them?

Steps to protect against ticks:

1️⃣ Dress in light-colored long sleeves and tuck your pants into your socks.
2️⃣ Apply EPA-approved repellent (like DEET or picaridin) to skin and treat clothing with permethrin.
3️⃣ Always walk in the center of trails, and shower and do a full-body check as soon as you get home.

With nearly 2,500 miles of streams and almost 14,000 acres of lakes, the Daniel Boone National Forest is the perfect place to celebrate National Fishing and Boating Week!

On Saturday, June 6, small fry (ages 15 and under) are invited to join our free Kids Fishing Derbies at Cave Run Lake, Laurel-London Optimist Youth Camp, Indian Creek, Little Double Creek Pond and Barren Fork Horse Camp.

We'll also be waiving fees at all boat ramps outside of developed campgrounds June 6-7 so the entire family can make the most out of Kentucky's free fishing weekend. Learn more https://www.fs.usda.gov/r08/danielboone
