John Handley High School senior Elizabeth Cesnik gained hands on experience in an immersive art program for three weeks this summer! While attending Summer Residential Governor's School at Radford University, Elizabeth worked on group art projects, critiqued artwork, and learned valuable information from multiple professors. Way to go, Elizabeth!

All WPS students ages 12 and older can now use a WinReady Voucher to travel to any school event for free! Pre-Printed Vouchers will be provided to schools by the City of Wi******er. Schools will distribute a WinReady voucher to students, per ride, for any school-related activity.🚌

Attendance Recovery is an opportunity for students in grades 5-12 to make up missed school time. It may take place before or after school or on Saturdays and is taught in person by a licensed teacher. Attendance Recovery helps students make up learning they may have missed while absent.

-We strongly encourage students to participate in Attendance Recovery opportunities.
-3 hours of Attendance Recovery = 1 recovered absence day for chronic absenteeism purposes.
-If students do not take advantage of Attendance Recovery and are chronically absent, they may be unable to participate in culminating activities, extracurricular school events, dances, or senior graduation ceremonies.

John Handley High School students Timothy Campbell and Evelyn Mullins were recognized as Track & Field state champions at this week’s School Board meeting!

🥇 EJ took first place in the state meet 400 with a time of 55.52. This year, she also broke the school record and the Handley Invitational Record in the 400.

🥇Timmy won the high jump with a jump of 6 feet 7 inches. He was all region and all district this year as well.

Congratulations to these outstanding students as well as their families and supporters! You make us proud!

🏀🚒 Our firefighting students at the Emil & Grace Shihadeh Innovation Centerer put on their gear and hit the basketball court! This activity gave students a chance to experience what it feels like to move and be active while wearing firefighter gear.
