Thank you to the Top of Virginia Regional Chamber for bringing your ALP Class to our campus yesterday to learn more about what goes in to being a nonprofit. These high school students are amazing representatives for each of the region’s schools. And how awesome it was to co-lead this session with Sarah Fishel, ED of the The YDC. We go way back IYKYK. 😉 After learning about what NPs do in this community they divided into three groups and created their own nonprofit, wrote an elevator speech for their cause, and made a presentation. It was amazing what they were able to accomplish in this 20 minute exercise. And their presentations were so polished !! They then did two service projects for Our Health and The Laurel Center: Intervention for Domestic and Sexual Violence. The students were surprised at how quickly the sandwiches they made for the Freedge were taken off the shelf, but the need is great in our community. Congratulations to each of the students for completing this summer session and enjoy your graduation tonight at SU.

It was a beautiful day for our first in season Healthy Living and Farmer’s Market event. Thank you to all of our partner agencies that set up booths and provided healthy living information and services to all the many people who attended. We gave out hundreds of dollars of vouchers to be used at our farmer’s booth to purchase healthy produce. Our partner clients are so grateful for all we do to help them navigate difficult times and get the life saving services they need. Our beautiful GreenSpace will be the host site for three more of these seasonal events - the third Tuesday of July, August and September from 10:00-2:00. This event is open to the public so stop by and learn more about living a healthy life. Thanks to Richard's Fruit Market for serving as our vendor for the third year in a row. Our Community Garden is planted thanks to the youth group from Braddock Street United Methodist Church. Today our campus came alive with 16 young people and their small band of adults who planted our flowers, mulched our campus, and set the veggies in our garden. These kids were cheerful and always willing to do the next task. So thankful for their mission of service. We are so pleased with the “finished product”.
