Winchester Rescue Mission

Winchester Rescue Mission Provides high quality care to individuals devastated by the effects of poverty and homelessness.

The Winchester Rescue Mission strives to end homelessness in the Northern Shenandoah Valley through healing, help, and hope. Our residency program for men and women who are experiencing homelessness provides shelter, clothing, meals, personal case-management, educational and development programs. Our "Cameron Market" (Mon-Fri @ 10AM) provides food to families in our community in a shopping experie

nce that allows them to choose what they want and need. Our "Cafe on Cameron" serve lunch and dinner to the community 365 days a year. We are able to provide this with the help of 20-30 volunteers a day and the generous financial support of our great community. To find out more how you can donate and volunteer, go to winrescue.org.

šŸ’™A little encouragement can go a long way.

Yesterday, Sam and his church group spent time serving with us by volunteering and writing encouragement cards for our residents. These thoughtful notes are a simple reminder that our residents are seen, valued, and supported by their community.

We're so grateful for groups like Sam's who choose to give their time, kindness, and encouragement. Thank you for being part of the Mission! šŸ’›

The reality of homelessness in Wi******er is often an isolating, daily fight for survival. It takes powerful, compassionate voices to help shine light on the people who are too often left in the shadows.

That is exactly why we are profoundly honored to welcome acclaimed actor Billy Baldwin as the keynote speaker for Wi******er Rescue Mission's Hope on the Horizon gala!

Many of you know Billy from classic films like Backdraft or Flatliners. But what you might not know is that he is a tireless, outspoken advocate for those suffering the effects of homelessness. Recently starring in the film No Address—a deeply moving drama that strips away the stereotypes of homelessness to reveal the raw, human stories of survival on the streets—Billy uses his platform to fight for the dignity, recovery, and life-transformation of our most vulnerable neighbors.

He understands the crisis. He shares our passion. And he knows that every single person deserves a second chance.

Join us on Friday, October 23rd at 6:30 PM at The George Washington Hotel for an unforgettable evening. This won’t just be a dinner—it will be a rallying cry for our community to come together and provide the resources for lasting, life-saving change for others in our community.

If your organization or business is interested in leading the charge as a sponsor before we open public ticket sales, reach out to our Sam Rogers at [email protected]

For everyone else eager to join us: Save the Date!

Individual ticket sales will officially go live the week of September 14th. Mark your calendars now and keep a close eye on our page for the official launch.

Our neighbors are fighting for their lives, but because of our incredible community, they aren't fighting alone. Let's make this a night that changes the trajectory of homelessness in Wi******er.

The electric bill is paid. The rent is covered. But when the budget is stretched to its breaking point, the grocery aisle becomes a place of impossible choices. For families in our community fighting to stay afloat, having access to fresh, healthy food isn't just a relief—it is an absolute lifeline.

But getting that food safely from our partners to the tables of our neighbors has always been an uphill battle behind the scenes. For years, we’ve relied on an aging fleet of pickup trucks to transport food donations. In the blistering heat of a Virginia summer or the freezing rain of winter, we’ve fought to keep perfectly good food safe from the elements while in transit.

So we are beyond thrilled to announce that through our incredible partnership with Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, WRM has officially acquired a second refrigerated box truck!

This isn't just an upgrade to our fleet. Because of this truck, tons of perfectly good, nutritious food will continue to be rescued, kept safely temperature-controlled, and transported securely to our doors.

But the real celebration isn't about a piece of equipment. It’s about the people it serves.

Through our Cameron Market ministry, we are taking this transported food and distributing it to an average of over 40 families every single week day. That is 40 families sitting down at the dinner table tonight without the heavy burden of hunger.

This is what happens when a community collaborates. When organizations like the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank and supporters like you step into the gap, real, tangible hope is delivered daily.

Stand with us. Learn more at www.winrescue.org.

Meet one of our residents

For him, this season of life has been about discovering his strength, accepting support, learning new skills, and working towards a better future.

"I'm stronger and more capable than I thought I was"

My experience here has been positive and meaningful. I've received support and encouragement, and I've learned to be more patient, accept help, and keep working toward my goals-even when things get difficult. Most importantly, I've learned that I don't have to face everything alone.

He enjoys playing video games and listening to music, but he's especially passionate about cars, learning new skills, and building a better future for himself.

His message to someone who is struggling?

"Don't give up on yourself."

Stories like his are possible because our community chooses to support people as they work toward something better.

Your support helps create a place where people can find encouragement, build new life skills, and take their next step forward. You help provide more than immediate needs-you help create a place where people can confidently work towards a better future.

You can help someone take their next step. Give todayšŸ’™

"People made an impact in my life. I want to impact many."

Read that again.

That powerful realization comes straight from the handwritten reflections of Carlton, an incredible guy currently walking through our 12-month program.

If you spend five minutes with Carlton, you'll immediately feel his energy. He loves working out and makes it his personal mission to uplift everyone he meets. He came to us facing a lot of challenges, but through faith, grace, and a community that refused to let him quit, he says he is ā€œstill rising beyond them.ā€

Carlton credits the relationships he’s built here for keeping him moving forward. That’s the real heartbeat of the Wi******er Rescue Mission. We aren't just a building with beds—we are a community. It’s real people choosing to show up for each other when life gets heavy, helping each other find their light.

Carlton’s life was changed because people made an impact on him, and now his goal is to do the same for others.

You can be the start of that exact same ripple effect. Whether you're serving a meal, serving at our Cameron Market, or just sitting down to have a genuine conversation in the dining room, your presence matters to someone like Carlton.

We need more people willing to show up. Head to www.winrescue.org/volunteer to get started or learn more! šŸ¤āœØ

Volunteer Spotlight: Meet Rose! šŸ’›

Rose is a mother of seven, and she loves bringing some of her children along to volunteer at the Market on Cameron. For her family, volunteering is a chance to serve, give back, and model the importance of helping others.

But Rose’s connection to the Market started a little differently.

She first came to the Market as a client after a Rescue Mission volunteer invited her to shop. After experiencing firsthand how much the Market blessed her family, Rose felt compelled to find a way to give back.

ā€œI love the opportunity to give back to this ministry that has so benefitted our community in such a practical way.ā€

Today, Rose loves helping save good food from going to waste, welcoming new shoppers, and letting them know that the food is free and that they can come back again and again.

When asked what she would say to someone considering volunteering, her answer was simple:

ā€œPlease jump in!ā€

We’re so grateful for Rose and the many volunteers who give their time, energy, and kindness to serve our community. Thank you, Rose, for being part of the Mission! šŸ’›

ā˜• We also asked Rose a fun question: Coffee or Tea?

Her answer: Coffee! With butter, salt, and honey. 😊

A look into our Market on Cameron Street this morning!šŸ„•šŸ’›

This morning, our Market was filled with fresh groceries, friendly faces, and volunteers ready to serve our community.

The Market gives individuals and families access to groceries while creating a welcoming place where people can find support and connect with others.

And behind every Market morning are volunteers who give their time to make it possible. We’re so grateful for everyone who helps make our community stronger—one grocery bag, one conversation, and one act of kindness at a time.

Thank you for being part of the Mission’s work in Wi******er. šŸ’›
