In its 1980 EKPC annual report, then President and General Manager Donald Norris remarked that EKPC's ever-expanding membership was growing far beyond even the most optimistic dreams of his predecessors. And EKPC was growing to serve the member's needs.

This photo is of the groundbreaking of EKPC's flagship generator Spurlock Station in 1970, and by 1980, EKPC was in the middle of construction on Spurlock's second unit. At the time, EKPC was adding 500 megawatts of capacity to Spurlock brining it to 800 megawatts by 1981.

But noteworthy in Norris' letter in the annual report is this nugget, "But the ultimate goal has remained steadfastly intact since the program's fledgling days: to provide the member cooperatives and their consumers with all the electricity they require, when they require it, and at the most reasonable price possible."

As EKPC celebrates its 85 anniversary, what was true in 1941, what was true in 1980 and what is true today is what Donald Norris said so succinctly, that our goal is to provide the member cooperatives and their members with all the electricity they require, when they require it, and at the most reasonable price possible.

As EKPC is once again building new generation capacity like it was in 1980, it is to serve the ever-growing membership of its owner-member cooperatives, and to be reliable all the time.

This year EKPC is celebrating 85 years of reliability for its members.

Kentucky leads in a statistic nationwide that should make all of us think about safe driving. Kentucky has the nation’s most teenage driving fatalities.

What can you do? Protect new drivers by modeling safe, responsible behavior when you get behind the wheel. Make sure young drivers are ready and well-practiced to be with other motorists as they learn to drive. Stay safe, Kentucky!
