Engine 1, Medic 1-2, and Chief 1 operated on this first due incident as well as the other 3 city companies with the assistance of Frederick County Quint 18.
At 0352, C shift crews were dispatched for a structure fire in the 300 block of Kern St. First arriving unit found a trash can on fire with no extension into the structure. Crews quickly extinguished the fire. No injuries.
Follow these safety tips to prevent fires from happening:
🗑 Materials improperly placed in the trash can can be fire hazard. Keep theses items out of your trash:
🔘Flammable liquids, combustible liquids, or oil-based products that support spontaneous combustion;
🔘Hazardous materials & chemicals (ammonia, bleach, pesticides, pool chemicals, etc.);
🔘Cylinder containing compressed gas (propane, helium, acetylene, & oxygen) or fire extinguishers;
🔘Rechargeable batteries (lithium-ion, nickel-cadmium Ni=Cd, or lead-acid);
🔘Ashes from fireplaces & barbecues;
🔘Discarded smoking material, open flame devices, or material recently ignited.
