🚒 How it started ➡️ how it’s going 🔥

Malachi Reed, John Handley High School class of 2024, was in the first ever firefighting class at the Emil & Grace Shihadeh Innovation Center. Today, he was pinned as a career firefighter by Chief Kerns, his former teacher and mentor.

Engine 1, Serv 1, and Chief 1 just cleared a working house fire in Company 13’s first due in Frederick County. Chief 13 arrived seconds after dispatch confirming smoke was showing. Engine 13 arrived and found a working fire on the 1st floor of the structure. Also assisting from the City was Ladder 2.

Engine 1, Medic 1-2, and Chief 1 operated on this first due incident as well as the other 3 city companies with the assistance of Frederick County Quint 18.

At 0352, C shift crews were dispatched for a structure fire in the 300 block of Kern St. First arriving unit found a trash can on fire with no extension into the structure. Crews quickly extinguished the fire. No injuries.

Follow these safety tips to prevent fires from happening:
🗑 Materials improperly placed in the trash can can be fire hazard. Keep theses items out of your trash:
🔘Flammable liquids, combustible liquids, or oil-based products that support spontaneous combustion;
🔘Hazardous materials & chemicals (ammonia, bleach, pesticides, pool chemicals, etc.);
🔘Cylinder containing compressed gas (propane, helium, acetylene, & oxygen) or fire extinguishers;
🔘Rechargeable batteries (lithium-ion, nickel-cadmium Ni=Cd, or lead-acid);
🔘Ashes from fireplaces & barbecues;
🔘Discarded smoking material, open flame devices, or material recently ignited.

Engine 1 and Medic 1-2 along with Battalion 6 and Truck 2 are on scene of a working house fire in company 18’s first due in Frederick County. Engine 18 is first on the scene with a working basement fire with extension to the main level.

Congratulations to our neighbors across town! Stay tuned, we also have a NEW wagon on the way too!

🌟We want to thank our past members and guests for joining us this past Saturday at our annual family picnic. It was a wonderful time of fellowship with so many people who have contributed to our success. We had even more to celebrate this year as we have paid have off our building 🎉

In 2000, we were located on Roosevelt Blvd and discussions began for a new building. Planning and design started. We worked with Dennis Molden on the land and Ricketts Construction on the design and build.

In 2002, we broke ground and we had a few members on site daily making sure construction was tight 😉

In 2003, we moved into our new/current building 🏣

We put $1, 000,000 down and financed $2,200,000🫣
Due economic down turn and covid, we had to refinance twice.

In April 2025, we paid off the note!💰

🚒 But we are not done! We signed a note for $750,000 for a new pumper, expected to be in service September 2025 and we will be putting in a bid for a new medic unit before the end of year 🚑

🚨We are proudly a Volunteer Fire Department, here to serve the Citizens of Wi******er, surrounding counties and the Wi******er Fire and Rescue Department!
